- Truck-mounted pumps- if the volume of water in your home is significant, we may bring this type of pump, which allows us to retrieve it and dispose of it following environmental guidelines
- Wiping down surfaces using EPA-approved cleaning and disinfecting solutions
- Using thermal imaging technology to identify areas where water is still present.

Moisture Removal and Drying in Mississauga Properties Are Critical during Storm Damage Mitigation
Customers in Mississauga Breathe a Sigh of Relief When SERVPRO Swiftly Arrives for Storm Damage Mitigation
Following Migration Patterns After Flood Damage in Mississauga
Homeowners experiencing flooding for the first time in Mississauga might express some surprise at the lengths we take to ensure we find all spaces the water invaded in your structure. Our technicians know that relying on a visual scan of previously flooded rooms and levels of your home is insufficient to assure that all water is evacuated and that no moisture remains. We use thermal imaging and moisture detecting devices to map the full contours of the flood water’s invasion.
Flooding Respects No Timeline or Barrier
Flood damage in Mississauga is common during snowmelt or heavy precipitation, but it is impossible to predict when these events will occur as weather patterns evolve. The Credit River and other streams and creeks in our neighborhoods also flood during the winter when ice dams form, sending freezing water across the landscape and through cinder blocks or concrete foundations into your basement.
Risks of Missing Hidden Water During Flood Mitigation and Remediation
Most foundations contain building materials with some degree of permeance, allowing water and vapor to intrude depending on the water pressure and the time the flooding surrounds the materials. Vulnerable areas like windows, vents, and walk-out doorways permit even more water to pass inside. Interior building materials can trap and obscure floodwaters. The fluids collect in the cells of cement blocks and rise between exterior walls and drywall, paneling, or lath and plaster. Water leaking into a basement can pool the above ceilings and percolate into hidden recesses behind appliances, heating and cooling systems, and storage areas. If SERVPRO technicians fail to follow the water migration paths both into the home and after it intrudes, moisture remains, causing progressive deterioration of building materials and creating conditions for secondary damage like mold growth.
Detective Work Reaps Benefits
As our submersible pumps and truck-mounted extractors move the bulk of the water out of your home, SERVPRO employees are looking for hidden water caches and saturated structural components. We use the following devices to track the water to devise strategies for removal and appropriate structural drying.
We use special cameras that show temperature variations, assisting our trained and experienced crew members in isolating trapped pools of liquid water or heavily saturated materials.
Used to detect moisture using probes in soft materials, these tools are particularly helpful in mapping the extent of migration but cannot collect data on the amount of moisture.
The meters determine the actual level of moisture in materials, which is essential for setting drying goals when compared to dry spaces in other areas of your home. Meter operation by trained individuals is critical, and frequent retesting is necessary to monitor progression toward drying goals.
This tool measures temperature and relative humidity, sometimes adding dew point capture ability. Data collected helps our technicians adjust airflow and temperature and aid in selecting and positioning dehumidification equipment during the flood damage drying phase.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga offers the trained crews and cutting-edge equipment to investigate and develop a plan and complete flood damage recovery. Call (905) 238-7376 immediately to get our team in place when floods threaten.
Mississauga Restoration Professionals Give Tips on Cleaning Fire Damage Residues
SERVPRO of North Mississauga is always on call to tackle your emergency home restoration needs. Call us today!
Cleaning Fire Damage Residues from Contents in Mississauga
The residues deposited after a fire in Mississauga coat both structural surfaces and various furnishings, household goods, and personal possessions in your home. We have many strategies for returning the contents and the building materials in your home back to pre-damaged condition. Some of the techniques and methods we can use on-site. Others are available at our production facility. We consider packing-out items to take advantage of the specialized equipment and our experienced contents technicians.
When your belongings suffer from light to medium fire damage in your Mississauga dwelling, the first step is dry cleaning. We use a range of tools and air pressure to remove light, ashy soils. Sometimes dry cleaning clears loose debris as a preliminary step before other techniques. Tools and equipment used include:
- Feather dusters
- Dusting cloths
- Dry cleaning sponges
- Pressurized air
Moderate or heavy non-oily residues on your furnishings and belongings require cleaning with water or a water-based cleaning solution. The material must be durable enough to endure complete saturation without disassembling, stretching, shrinking, or otherwise distorting.
Rather than soaking items, an adapted option is foam cleaning. Often used for cleaning upholstery, SERVPRO technicians develop a foam by agitating a water-based cleaning solution. We use a Tampico upholstery brush to dip into the foam and then dab the aerated suds onto the surface. Soil lifts off without significant wetting or color bleeding of delicate materials.
Spray and Wipe
A diluted cleaning solution sprays over residues and suspends the soiling. SERVPRO employees use cloths or sponges to wipe off the key and the dissolved or emulsified debris. The choice to spay and wipe limits the saturation but permits more of the surface to make contact with the cleaning solution than foaming cleaning.
Two ways of using abrasive materials are helpful. SERVPRO workers can choose a cleaning product with abrasive ingredients. Or we can apply any cleaning solution with an abrasive material such as steel wool or a scrubbing pad. To avoid damaging the affected surface, we take great care with the abrasives, loosening residues but maintaining the integrity of the materials.
Submerging durable items into a cleaning solution contained in a tub or basin is immersion cleaning. After a dwell time, we use brushes or towels to remove the loosened fire damage debris. We train some of our SERVPRO technicians in ultrasonic cleaning. Articles are submerged in a tank of cleaning agents, and high-frequency sound waves create an emotional reaction, millions of bubbles imploding, resulting in high temperatures and microscopic jets of agitating and scrubbing solution.

Need Help Cleaning Up and Drying After a Water Leak in Mississauga – Call SERVPRO
The majority of homes in Mississauga have basements, often finished, with laundry facilities located on the first floor or in the basement. Whenever there is a water leak or overflow, the water can cause a great deal of potential damage on the main floor and the basement if the water is not removed quickly. Flooring materials on the main floor are exposed to water. The water travels to the room below, causing ceiling materials and basement flooring to be exposed to high moisture levels.
SERVPRO provides water cleanup, drying, and restoration services to Mississauga residents and business clients. We use high-capacity water extractors to remove water and moisture from carpets and hardwood floors. Moisture sensors can detect moisture inside walls and ceilings. We open access points in walls and ceilings to remove water and dry the area if necessary.
Mold can begin forming colonies in as little as 24 hours after a water leak with the right conditions present. We urge all of our clients to take action immediately to remove the excess water and call our team to properly dry all structures and contents exposed to water after a leak. Mold can cause health effects. Moisture is absorbed by wood products, causing swelling, buckling, and warping if all moisture is not removed.
Our team uses specialized water extractors to remove water from hardwood floors to prevent absorption by the wood. Our high-capacity dehumidifiers and air movers will dry the contents, including carpets and underpads.
SERVPRO water cleanup services include:
- Water removal services
- Ceiling repairs from water damage
- Basement water removal and cleanup

Water Damage Fast Response in Mississauga
Trust SERVPRO's IICRC certified team for water damage cleanup and restoration in Mississauga
Mississauga Homeowners Trust SERVPRO for Water Mitigation
Water damaging incidents can often be one of the most typical service calls our SERVPRO team receives for Mississauga homes and businesses. Understanding how quickly the situation can get out of control, we always strive to provide a fast and deliberate response no matter what day or night these disasters occur. We have an experienced roster of technicians ready to utilize modern practices and advanced equipment and technologies to dry and restore damaged structures.
Water damage for Mississauga homes can vary considerably from one site to the next, from a pipe bursting after steep temperature drops to a leaking sink fixture that deteriorates kitchen cabinetry; what it takes to restore the disaster depends on the situation at hand. Before determining what personnel, equipment, and practices are necessary, the job hinges on the inspection and evaluation of our crew chief and project manager. They scope the work to get done. This thorough assessment can help the customer, their home insurance provider, and our responding technicians know what is necessary to make water problems “Like it never even happened.”
Preparedness for Emergencies
Preparing for disasters before they happen is not guesswork but a calculated response to the likelihood of water emergencies occurring as they continue to happen consistently. So our SERVPRO professionals keep our inventory of recovery tools, and advanced detection devices stocked year-round to address these emergencies as they happen. Having production vehicles ready to mobilize at the first sign of a disaster can shave hours off of response times and help to preserve and protect more of your damaged Mississauga property.
Staying prepared also involves maintaining the equipment we use every day to restore and recover damaged homes and businesses. Our team cares for our inventory of tools and equipment through upkeep, cleaning, and repairs as necessary. Ineffective tools on a job site slow down production and prevent our team from accomplishing our goals efficiently.
Highly Qualified Technicians
Any restoration company can write up pamphlets or shoot commercials telling you that they are the best, but in the end, it comes down to more than talking. Our SERVPRO team does more than the bare minimum to produce qualified restoration technicians. That starts with the training and coursework required for our professionals to obtain accreditation in their respective niches. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) sets the industry standard for practices and technician education. They are the chosen educator for our newly acquired talent and provide continued education coursework online and in-house to push our team always to be the best.
One of the first actions that our professionals must take when reaching a water loss incident is removing standing surface water from the scene. Pooling water can be a continual threat to exposed materials and contents. The standing water can also produce hazards like an electric shock or slip/fall concerns for those in the damaged area, so removing this surface water as quickly as possible is the priority for our responding professionals.
As part of our preparedness for water loss emergencies, our READY trailers stay stocked with our popular extractors, such as:
- Electric submersible pumps
- Gas-powered trash pumps
- Wet vacuums and wands
- thermal imaging devices
Depending on the severity of the situation, any of these extraction tools might get used on a restoration task. We also have truck-mounted extraction systems that roll out with our Green Fleet for substantial depths or widespread concerns. These engine-driven water removal machines can continually pull water from a home's flooring at 300 psi, allowing our SERVPRO team to move thousands of gallons from Mississauga properties within hours of arrival.
Removing the most pressing threats like standing water might be an obvious place to begin the mitigation process, but drying is less straightforward. There are numerous tools used to restore construction materials and contents after saturation has started. At the heart of the drying process, you find two main pieces of equipment:
High-velocity air movers are the cornerstone machine of evaporative drying techniques used in water damage restoration. These machines are two main types, allowing our technicians to direct heated, dry air at either direct points on a surface or item (centrifugal units) or to impact the totality of a water-damaged room (axial units.)
The use of air movers and other evaporative drying equipment increases the relative humidity and moisture content in the environment. Dehumidifiers like our desiccant and low-grain refrigerant (LGR) models can help to collect this moisture in the air to maximize drying.
While these two types of equipment are at the heart of drying processes in every Mississauga home or business, we also have other moisture removal tools and equipment to help in this process. Combining these pieces of equipment can help provide efficient and effective recovery of water-damaged properties. Beyond air movers and dehumidifiers, other drying equipment includes:
- Drying mats
- Positive pressure systems
- Negative pressure systems
Many water leak incidents that impact area structures can be a destructive force, requiring more than extraction and drying to resolve. As a full-service restoration team, our SERVPRO response includes both mitigation technicians and a capable crew of licensed residential contractors. These building trades professionals can help with controlled demolition and reinstalling discarded materials once this stage is reached in the restoration process. By offering reconstruction and restoration, we can save customers time and money on the recovery that their property needs by streamlining the process.
Water losses can be a debilitating situation for many of the homes and businesses in the area. With the time-sensitive nature of these disasters, it is critical to get help as quickly as possible. You can reach our SERVPRO of North Mississauga rapid response team anytime you need us by calling (905) 238-7376. We have skilled technicians and an extensive inventory of recovery tools to help.

SERVPRO responds rapidly to abate mould damage in Mississauga commercial buildings
Taking care of your business premises can be vital to ensuring consistent progress and minimal loss of revenue. The last thing any business needs is temporary closure, so acting quickly at the first signs of microbial growth is crucial. Common signifiers for microbial growth could be discoloration of ceiling tiles or peeling paint. It can also be walls that are cracking, warping, or bubbling in places. Generally, signs of unwanted moisture in premises are equivalent to the symptoms of mould. Our services include licensed mould remediation specialists that can evaluate and remediate your premises to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. We can help your business with:
- Mould infestation
- Commercial mould inspection
- Mould remediation
Performing commercial mould remediation in Mississauga requires special safety equipment. It may be safe for staff to remain working in your business premises, depending on the extent of mould infestation. Remediation that disturbs mould, such as demolishing drywall, can create an air particulate problem as mould spores become airborne. However, SERVPRO technicians are experts at containing parts of the premises with mould and allowing access to other areas. Mould spore containment can help prevent the spread from affected to unaffected areas. Mould barriers include:
- Using thick polyethylene sheets, physical barriers are set up by sealing vents and entranceways. Physical barriers typically include decontamination chambers at entrance points.
- Equipment barriers can involve the use of negative air-pressure machines. Negative air pressure draws airborne spores through a set of filters to remove them from the affected area.
- High-efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are industrial standard and can remove particulate matter as small as 0.3 microns- for reference, a human hair is around 70 microns.
SERVPRO understands the crucial rapid remediation of mould infestations can save inventory from contamination and capital investments like equipment and structural assemblies.
If your business is affected by mould, contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga for mould remediation at (905) 238-7376.
Are Electrical Fires Common in Malton?
Electrical house fires can be very damaging to a Malton property, call SERVPRO to make it "Like it never even happened."
Electrical Fires Are a Common Cause of House Fires and Often Require Fire and Smoke Clean-up from Professional Services
Our homes are full of electrical devices. Cookers, televisions, sockets, and light switches are among the most common in our homes, but lithium-powered products like cell phones, laptops, and speakers have been added to the mix in recent years. If these electrical items are tampered with or malfunction, they can cause a property fire. Signs of faulty wiring or fire hazards in your home can include regular fuse or power outages, the need to daisy-chain extension cords, or having to switch one device off before turning on another. Devices can also cause fires due to their lithium batteries. The main concern is that these devices can combust rapidly if exposed to high temperatures for long periods. Should a fire happen, we can help you with:
- Smoke and odour removal
- Fire debris removal
- Fire cleaning
Conducting fire and smoke clean up in your Malton home is driven by the type of fire and what materials burned. Electrical fires often result in wet, greasy smoke deposits because they are usually constructed from synthetic materials. Woods and other organic matter tend to burn quickly and leave dry smoke. One of the top methods for avoiding a fire is to keep potential fire hazards away from potential fuel sources. Leaving an active extension cord on soft furnishing, for example, can be a common cause of property fire. To repair property after an electrical fire, you may need solvent chemicals to remove certain smokes and alternative power sources for cleaning equipment.
- Portable lighting powered by generators is necessary for properties where an electrical fire has resulted in a temporary power outage.
- Dry solvent chemicals are frequently used to break down the bond between wet smokes and surfaces at a molecular level.
- Enlisting an electrical repair professional is essential if the fire was caused by faulty wiring running through your home.
Faulty electrical equipment accounts for an estimated 50,000 fires each year in North America. Contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga for fire and smoke clean up at (905) 238-7376.
What Is the Process for Commercial Fire Damage Restoration in Mississauga?

SERVPRO in Mississauga Is Here to Help Organize and Execute Commercial Fire Damage Restoration for Local Business
Large commercial buildings can require high-scale restoration when subjected to an accidental fire or another disaster. Gymnasiums, warehouses, and storage units can all fall victim to fire and, if the building is at the time vacated, these fires can rage for several hours, causing extensive harm. SERVPRO is a restoration service with the requisite human resources to help commercial property managers return their business entities to a preloss condition. One of the core factors affecting the length of restoration is the size of the building and its access points. Buildings with high ceilings, thousands of square feet to cover, and drop ceilings or plenums often require more complex restoration solutions. We are here to help with:
- Warehouse fires
- Commercial fire damage
- Commercial restoration
Ceilings ranging from ten to twenty-five feet are common problems commercial fire damage restoration teams face here in Mississauga. Smoke travels quickly through open spaces where there is lots of oxygen and can leave behind residues or odours on any surfaces that make contact with the smoke. In some restoration projects, our team has had to build temporary scaffolding to allow access to the upper points of a large commercial premises. Drop ceilings, commonly made from acoustical tiles, create a cavity between the outer and suspended ceiling that often builds pressure in a fire, making it difficult to access the inner points. Our team can remove these ceilings to allow access and hand-clean any ducts, piping, or electrical wiring before replacing the suspended ceilings tiles with new material.
- High-value items can often return to a preloss condition with hand-cleaning. Hand-cleaning can be applied to framed pictures, certificates, documents, or sculptures.
- Plywood can be placed on flooring with scaffolding built onto the plyboard preventing additional damage.
- Laminate floors in commercial buildings require immediate attention to avoid becoming water-damaged by fire fighting

No Matter the Source, SERVPRO Can Respond to Mississauga Seasonal Flood Damage

This unique disaster serves as a reminder that flooding can threaten Mississauga residences 365 days a year and that storm damage can take many unexpected turns during its relentless paths toward damaging area properties.
How Can SERVPRO Help Keep Your Family Safe During Storm-Related Basement Flooding?
We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster, arriving as quickly as possible to scope out the circumstances required for Mississauga flood restoration. The crucial first phase include a safety assessment during which an experienced SERVPRO project manager checks out the following, among many other hazards:
- Ceilings and walls for trapped water heavy enough to collapse structures and injure occupants

- Biohazards such as asbestos or lead-based painted surfaces now broken apart and with the dangerous substances uncontained

Why Worry About Water Removal in Malton if the Fluid Drained Away?
Taking care of the water removal after an emergency is our specialty. Team SERVPRO is standing by 24/7 for your emergency call.
SERVPRO Technicians Trace Water Damage Migration to Ensure All Materials Dry Out
When a burst pipe or ceiling leak from a rotted roof drains into your Malton house, water removal quickly can seem superfluous. Although the water pools up and sweeps across floors, it also appears to vanish. When you are no longer wading, is the water crisis past? SERVPRO professionals strongly suggest that is not the case.
What Does the SERVPRO Crew Evaluate After a Significant Leak?
A broken pipe or severe rainstorm can send thousands of gallons of fluids flowing into your home in Malton. Water removal involves many steps, the majority of which involve following the pathways the water wended throughout the numerous building materials of your home. All caches of trapped water need release and extraction, and damp structures, fixtures, and contents require specialized strategies for drying. Expect our technicians to:
- Use moisture detectors, moisture meters, and infrared imaging to map the perimeters of the water damage infiltration
- Plan controlled demolition if water is unreachable or to open wet building cavities for drying, including, as needed:
- Ceiling weep holes for pooled, overhead water
- Drilled or cut drainage openings behind baseboards to drain the water between walls
- Loosening of strategically selected hardwood floor planks to allow air flow and drying
- Flood cuts sawn between walls studs to remove crumbled drywall or plaster and facilitate warm air movement
When SERVPRO Finds Trapped Water Is Extraction Preferred?
Whenever possible, liquid water needs evacuation assisted by the controlled demolitions strategies above. Although SERVPRO has highly effective drying equipment, the time it takes to dry materials completely reduces significantly with diligent extraction. Time management is vital during water removal scenarios as the damage water causes is progressive and secondary damage such as mould damage takes only 24 to 48 hours to take hold.
Have confidence that the team from SERVPRO of North Mississauga will track, find, and remove all water and lingering moisture in your dwelling. Contact us at (905) 238-7376 to schedule an assessment and discuss a water damage management plan.
Does Kitchen Fire Damage in Mississauga Present Challenges?
Regardless of the room that the fire affected, a quick response is warranted. Contact our SERVPRO technicians immediately after an event in your home.
Training and Equipment Support SERVPRO During Mississauga Kitchen Fire Clean Up
Your kitchen is at particular risk for fire damage in Mississauga. You and your family's safety are paramount, and job one is to get to safety. All it takes is a few seconds of inattention or an accidental tipping of a pan, and a gourmet meal can become the epicentre of a serious conflagration. Once the flames extinguish and you view the mess in your kitchen job two is to call SERVPRO.
Why Does Mississauga Fire Damage Require Professional Interventions?
Mississauga smoke and fire damage remediation involves cleaning up toxic residues, both airborne and on surfaces. The protein-based soot created in a kitchen fire adheres tightly to appliances, counters, floors, and more. The protein-based smoke and soot are incredibly malodorous, composed of a mix of vaporized dehydrated foods and rancid oils. Residues do not remain in the kitchen; they travel widely on superheated air currents throughout your home. SERVPRO professionals are familiar with the unique needs of kitchen fire damage restoration:
Constructing containment perimeters of heavy-duty plastic, using negative pressure air scrubbing systems to mitigate further drift of the soot and begin deodorization
Examining the characteristics and spread of the residues and the durability of the surfaces damaged to best match soiling with effective yet non-marring soot removal products, tools, and cleaning strategies
Implementing the expertly designed cleaning protocols, typically using solvents to emulsify the oil and protein-based coatings
Adding abrasives to the cleaning products or using tools such as steel wool, stiff-bristled brushes, scrapers, or other rough-surfaced devices to break the bond between the lacquer-like residues and the affected surfaces

What Does Mitigating Mold Damage in Mississauga Properties Involve?
Discovering a mold infestation in your home can often take you by surprise. Contact our certified SERVPRO mold damage specialists 24/7.
SERVPRO Provides Comprehensive In-House Solutions for Mold Restoration
Mold is a naturally occurring element that aids in natural decay processes. Mold development in any part of your structure, interior or exterior, is not a good sign since it is a precursor to many problems, including visual and structural deterioration. Mitigating mold damage is the process of eliminating the harmful effects of mold.
Taking action immediately when you notice signs of mold damage in your Mississauga home is critical. Only appropriate actions are necessary. Otherwise, your efforts would not change anything. One of the advantages SERVPRO presents is sending trained Microbial Remediation Technicians who can identify the best course of action for your case.
Mitigating mold damage takes several steps, including:
- Mold testing
- Containment and demolition
- Sanitizing and deodorization
Although there are several types of mold, there is no need for strict testing to establish the exact strain affecting your house. The necessary testing is more about the location of the contamination. Our SERVPRO IICRC-certified technicians perform tests to establish mold in cavities such as wall spaces or subfloors. We also test for wetness levels and humidity. Cleaning mold to remove patches and stains is essential. Cleaning mold differs from cleaning other soils, especially since water aggravates the problem.
Our SERVPRO technicians use alternatives such as:
- Damp wiping with surfaces
- Wire brushing
- Blast cleaning with soda or dry ice
Demolishing some parts of the structure to reach hidden mold or remove heavily deteriorated materials is necessary in some cases. Such demolition must be procedural to prevent unnecessary damages or dangerous exposure. Our SERVPRO teams establish airtight containment around the areas we plan to demolish to protect those in the vicinity.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga has IICRC certified Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians who can help your fight against mold damage making it, "Like it never even happened." Call us at (905) 238-7376.
What Determines the Response to Fire Damage in a Mississauga Home?
Facing fire damage after a recent fire? Bring in the SERVPRO professional remediation team for effective mitigation services. We are here 24/7.
SERVPRO Improves Fire Restoration Outcomes by Providing Technical Skills and Sophisticated Equipment
Even though fires are not an everyday event in homes, there is always a risk of one starting at your Mississauga home. Like most people, responding to a fire incident is not something you have at the top of your head, so you may not know what to do or what you can salvage once the flames die down.
The decisions you make when addressing fire damage at your Mississauga home depend on the resources you have and the extent of damages left. Professional help from SERVPRO is advantageous since we have state-of-the-art equipment that simplifies restoration or improves the chances of salvaging more items.
The main factors that determine the response include:
- Various costs
- Materials involved
- Availability of skills and equipment
Different categories of costs are crucial when addressing fire damage. The cost of replacing the affected items is one such category. If the materials can be replaced cheaply, there is no need to waste time and money attempting restoration, especially if a positive outcome is not guaranteed. Soiled insulation is a perfect example to illustrate this since it is better to replace the top layers rather than spend time cleaning. Another cost-related issue is the time it might take to complete the restoration, especially if such effort might delay other restoration processes.
Sometimes materials dictate the fire restoration action you can take. Some materials may be delicate, and leaving them unaddressed can worsen the damage. For example, metallic trim such as hinges, door handles, and knobs might survive the fire but leaving them covered with soot increases chances of irreversible damage through corrosion. Our SERVPRO technicians pre-clean such vulnerable materials and apply a thin oil film before focusing on other aspects. Other materials might be too delicate to survive cleaning procedures. For instance, cleaning acoustic tile ceilings can permanently damage them due to over-wetting. Our technicians use specialized procedures such as peroxide active cleaning.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga explores different fire damage solutions reassuring homeowners of getting the best solution. Call us at (905) 238-7376. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.
How Much of a Threat Are Frozen Pipes to Mississauga Homes?
Quick action is required when dealing with frozen pipes in your home. Prevention is key and calling SERVPRO after an incident will help as well.
A frozen pipe could be very damaging to Mississauga properties when it bursts.
Much like the threats of a hurricane or tornado, homeowners should work to avoid possible damage to their homes through preventative measures. Frozen pipes continue to be a common threat to homes and businesses in the Peel Region.
How Do Pipes Freeze in Mississauga Homes?
Between frozen pipes and ice damming Mississauga homes might experience, the winter season could be a potentially expensive and destructive time of the year. Frozen pipes rate as one of the higher callouts for our restorers during the winter, and this happens when inadequately insulated pipes become exposed to low temperatures.
Can You Avoid the Plumbing Freezing?
- Properly Insulate – Verify the sufficient insulation through your home and around metal service lines.
- Spread Warm Air – Ensure warm air in your home reaches areas where exposed pipe exists.
- Allow the Affected Faucet to Run – Let at-risk water lines have small water flow through the coldest parts of the day.
What Should You Do When Pipes Freeze?
You must act fast when water lines become damaged by freezing. It is possible to prevent a burst situation by thawing out the blockage within the line using safe heat like the output of a hairdryer. Torches and more aggressive measures could damage your line.
How Can SERVPRO Help After Water Damage?
Experience matters when your home suffers water damage during harsh winter weather. Not only does the mess need to be cleaned quickly, but threatening low temperatures could also continue to damage the property through now saturated and wet contents and materials. Our SERVPRO team responds rapidly to these emergencies with mitigation solutions to extract water and dry affected surfaces.
Winters can be a rough time of the year in the Ontario area, putting the construction of homes and their insulation to the test. When preventative measures are unsuccessful and water damages result from frozen pipes or ice dams, our SERVPRO of North Mississauga team can respond fast to help when you call (905) 238-7376.

We can also help set up staging areas and temporary business operations in areas unaffected by the fire. Containment rooms and negative pressure rooms work well to separate damaged areas from those that can still contribute to your day-to-day business after a fire.

SERVPRO Provides Water Damage Cleanup Services in Malton
Many clients wonder why drywall and insulation in outside-facing walls would need to be removed during water cleanup after a leak in their home in Malton. Water leaks in plumbing systems near outside walls can begin leaking after extremely cold weather cause water pipes to freeze, crack and start leaking when they thaw. The insulation is wet, the drywall becomes saturated, and water may spread across the floor or into another room immediately below the leak.
SERVPRO provides water cleanup services in Malton, water damage repair, and restoration services. Although the insulation can be dried, in most cases, the wet insulation is removed and the area dried before new insulation is installed. We must remove the drywall and vapor barrier during this process to access the wet insulation and repair the frozen pipes. In addition to dehumidifiers and air movers, space heaters may be utilized to avoid further frozen pipes until we install new insulation.
The removal of the interior drywall damaged by the water leak and insulation usually creates a great deal of dust. SERVPRO constructs containment barriers and negative air pressure systems to minimize the spread of dust and insulation fibers to other home areas during this process. We also investigate the water inside cupboards and between floors to avoid further secondary damage to various compressed wood products used in cabinets and subfloor systems.
SERVPRO provides the following services to return your home to its preloss condition, “Like it never even happened.”

How do restorers conduct water removal?
For effective and fast water removal, we use advanced equipment and tools and unique but approved products. If the water has already saturated building materials, we extract the moisture through evaporation and dehumidification.
We can use desiccant dehumidifiers with two 20 inches reinforced duct lines. The equipment uses chemicals called desiccants that absorb moisture. It produces heat that passes through the desiccant material to the affected area via one of the duct lines. After heating the affected area, the other duct line extracts moisture from the building. We prefer desiccants dehumidifiers since:
- The equipment acts effectively in drier and cooler conditions
- It produces the driest air with the lowest vapor
- The machine works effectively when the intake air is cooler and drier
Poor water removal can lead to irreversible damages that may cause a fortune to repair. Contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga for fast water mitigation in your business. “We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.” Call us today at (905) 238-7376.

SERVPRO Can Help You With the Water Removal in Your Mississauga Business!
Mississauga is a part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA,) and is well known throughout the country for its busy streets. It is named for the original Indigenous group who lived in the area for many centuries, the Mississauga Anishinaabe. Due to its location adjacent to Lake Ontario, the area has been rich in trade routes since colonization began in the 1600s.
Mississauga Facts and History:
The population of Mississauga was estimated to be around 720,000 in 2016. However, because of its position in the GTA, and how close the surrounding cities are, the metropolitan area houses almost six million. Pre-colonization, it is unknown how many people were in the area, but it was thought to be inhabited by Iroquois, Algonquin, and Mississauga.
Mississauga was settled as an independent city in 1805. Furthermore, the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW,) one of the major highways running through the city, was constructed in 1935. Nearby, the Credit River lays, as well as Lake Ontario.
Notable Places In and Around Mississauga:
Mississauga is adjacent to Toronto and therefore shares many of the same interests and attractions. Some places to see include:
- Port Credit: A French-influenced shopping area with beautiful landscapes and eateries.
- Rattray Marsh Conservation Area: This patch of land, marsh, and lake is considered an amazing walking or hiking trail connecting to Jack Darling Park.
- CN Tower: The CN Tower was once the tallest structure in the world, only recently beat out by a tower in Dubai.
- Mississauga Public Library: If you are looking to learn the local history, this library has many historical newspapers kept digitally.

Malton is the sixth-largest city in Canada, rivaling Toronto as a must-visit destination in North America. The town, a part of Ontario, is a dining center that offers up fantastic local produce alongside progressive arts and culture, which has become Malton's trademark. The mixture of traditional activities, outdoor scenery, and thriving contemporary culture has seen Malton develop into a top tourist destination for those visiting Canada. The region effortlessly brings together its traditional tea-rooms and historical sites with modern shopping and cultural activity. Each year thousands of visitors descend on Malton to experience a less touristy Canadian culture than that offered by its rivals Toronto and Niagara.
Historical buildings in Malton date back to the nineteenth century, with some of the highlights being the traditional Tea Rooms at Robinson Bray House and the Georgian-styled Benares House. The Bray House, in particular, opens out onto a quaint main street featuring many historic buildings while in-house dining is catered for by local pastry chef Melanie Howsam. Celebration Square is at the heart of Malton, which provides free entertainment for the whole family. Highlights include the numerous music festivals that take place annually and enormous ice skating rinks that open throughout the winter season. Typical food options include Egyptian and Japanese cuisine.
- The Casa Loma is a stunning period revival of Gothic Architecture that opens to the public as a tourist attraction throughout the year. Initially built in 1914, the castle-like mansion was the permanent residence of Sir Henry Pellat. The adjacent gardens are also open to the public throughout the year.
- Canada's Wonderland is one of Canada's largest theme parks, with 134 hectares of rollercoaster rides, water slides, and entertainment. The park opens daily during the summer season, running until Labour Day, when it closes for the winter season.
- The Fo Guang Shan Temple is a highlight of the local culture, which runs regular tours for visitors. The tours comprise an exploration of ancient Chinese philosophy, art, and dining rooms. The temple remains a fully-active Buddhist temple for Malton's Chinese residents.

What Is The Most Effective Way To Remove Odour During Fire Restoration?
You want a trusted team of experts with the equipment your property needs after a fire incident occurs. Call SERVPRO right away.
SERVPRO Combines Different Approaches for Thorough Deodorisation of Mississauga Homes
Bad odour is one expected outcome of fire incidents since odorous materials accumulate in open and hidden areas of the property. Some of the odour may dissipate after cleanup, but in most cases, further intervention is necessary to remove all lingering traces of odour.
Deodorisation is the fire restoration procedure Mississauga residences require to regain their preloss state. Like other restoration processes, a single deodorisation method is not likely to deliver the best outcome. Professional restoration services combine several approaches to ensure all odour sources are addressed. Typical methods include:
- Air filtration
- Thermal Fogging
- Use of activated oxygen
Since smoke is made up of various substances, including fine residues and vapour, some remain suspended in the air making the property smell. One way our SERVPRO technicians eliminate such substances from the air is by running air filtration devices with HEPA filters in the affected rooms to capture residues as small as 0.3 microns.
Odour molecules might also be embedded deep into porous materials making it difficult to remove them. Our technicians use approaches that overcome the physical challenge of reaching the odour. Thermal fogging helps deliver odour counteractants deep into materials. Alternatively, we use activated oxygen from ozone and hydroxyl generators to break down odour molecules.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga goes the extra mile during fire restoration to leave your property odour-free. Call (905) 238-7376 for assistance.

SERVPRO Avails Any Necessary Resources to Restore Flood Damage
On the shores of Lake Ontario lies Mississauga City, a transportation hub and an excellent shopping destination. One of the leading transportation assets in the city is the Pearson International Airport which is connected to seven major highways including the Ontario 401 Express and the Express Toll Route. The city was incorporated in 1974. Initially, it was known as Toronto Township but was later renamed Mississauga.
The name was derived from the name of indigenous people in the area known as the Mississaugas of the Credit. The naming was rather peculiar since it was a contest where residents were requested to suggest their preferred name. Suggestions ranged from the absurd like ‘Banana Peel’ to the mischievous ones like ‘Police State Village’. In the end, three names, Malton, Sheridan, and Mississauga stood out, and residents chose Mississauga in a plebiscite.
A Perfect Urban Setting for Cyclists
Cycling is gaining popularity in most cities since it is a convenient way to beat traffic and is environmentally friendly. Incorporating cycling in daily routines is also a positive way to maintain fitness for an urban dweller. Mississauga offers the best experience for cyclists since it has a long term Cycling Master Plan created in 2010 that seeks to establish 897 kilometres of city-wide infrastructure over 27 years. By 2018, the city’s cycling map had already accumulated approximately 500 kilometres of interconnected paths, trails, bicycle lanes, signed bike routes and segregated bike lanes which have physical barriers separating them from the overall traffic. Some of the roads in the city with segregated bike lanes include:
- Burnhamthorpe Road
- Dundas Street
- Hurontario Street
- Lakeshore Boulevard
Flooding Issues in Mississauga
Although there is no major flooding problem in Mississauga, occasional incidents cause severe hardship to residents. One memorable case was a flash flood incident in the Greater Toronto Area in 2013. 100mm of rainfall inundated the area in a day submerging roads and interrupting the GO train line. Many of the people inconvenienced en route from work also arrived home to find their houses submerged. Apart from the extreme incidents affecting the GTA, minor incidents affect specific neighbourhoods. Some of the vulnerable areas include:
- Cooksville Creek which was initially affected in 2009 and was still in recovery during the 2013 floods
- Applewood mostly affected because of the Little Etobicoke Creek
- Lisgar which floods primarily because of water build up in foundation drain collection systems
How Does SERVPRO Help Restore Mississauga Homes with Basements after Flood Damage?
Floodwater tends to accumulate faster in basements since they are positioned at the lowest points of homes. Restoring the basement may require several processes including removing the water, cleaning and drying. It is a challenging process for several reasons:
- Its low elevation necessitates more effort to pump out water
- Basements are rarely empty so renovation may only be possible after moving out items
- The water removal approach can affect the foundation of the structure
- Faulty or broken sump pumps can exacerbate the flood damage
SERVPRO uses various resources to overcome these challenges. For instance, we have submersible pumps that simplify water extraction. If the water contains solid materials such as silt or mud, we have self-priming trash pumps to handle such extraction. Our crews are also well versed with content move-outs.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga responds to flood damage appropriately. Call us at (905) 238-7376 to assist you.

SERVPRO of North Mississauga Ensures That Local Businesses Look “Like It Never Even Happened.”
Mississauga is a sprawling community near Toronto with a booming business district that has accelerated its growth considerably. This city is also home to the busiest airport in Canada, Toronto Pearson International Airport. The name Mississauga originates from Anishinaabe “Misi-zaagiing,” which translates roughly to “[Those at the] Great River-Mouth.” It is closely associated with Ojibwe “Misswezahging,” or “a river with many outlets.”
Before Europeans began to settle the area in the 17th century, the Mississauga region was home to several First Nations tribes that primarily spoke Algonquian and Iroquoian. The Credit River Valley was the most populated by indigenous peoples. Many of them traded with the French, including the Algonquian Mississauga tribe. By the beginning of the 18th century, however, the Mississaugas were driven out of the valley by the Iroquois.
Like many other cities in the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga is not a centralized urban metropolis. It is a diverse confederacy of towns and neighborhoods. They eventually coalesced into a city with a unique identity of its own after the formation of Toronto Township in the early 19th century, which initially included most modern-day Mississauga.
Today, this diverse gem of Ontario sports a population of over 720,000 as of 2016. These figures make it the second-largest city in Greater Toronto, third in Ontario, and sixth in Canada overall.
Notable Saugans include such names as:
- Hockey player John Tavares
- Actor Dameon Clarke
- Instagram influencer Maddie Orlando
- Novelist Mona Awad
- Photographer Jason Pagaduan
The Mississauga Tribe: Then and Now
Much of the Anishinaabe moved from Niagara Falls to Michigan, particularly along Lake Erie and southern Michigan. The tribal histories considered them “lost.” Others, like the Mississaugas, moved along the Credit River to what is now Georgian Bay.
The Mississauga petitioned the Michigan Anishinaabe to return to a “good path.” The other tribe responded by migrating from the Detroit area to Manitoulin Island after forming the Council of Three Fires. The Anishinaabe and Mississaugas maintained a presence on the island and along the Mississagi River for centuries. The Anishinaabe were so populous that, by the mid-1600s, their language became the indigenous lingua franca, surpassing the Great Lakes Wendat’s Wyandot language.
In the late eighteenth century, near the end of the American Revolution, Britain purchased Mississauga lands in a compact known today as the Haldimand Deed. This agreement detailed the gifting of the land promised to the Haudenosaunee tribe. However, the British Crown and Canada instead made land grants to white settlers, namely British Loyalists. The Haudenosaunee would instead gift land to the Mississaugas so they could become the Mississaugas of the Credit. The Canadian government would eventually pay reparations to the tribe in a $145 million settlement.
The Mississauga people today are a subset of the Ojibwe nation, who now number over 200,000 total. Six First Nations and numerous reserves comprise the Mississaugas today and include:
- Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
- Curve Lake First Nation
- Hiawatha First Nation
- Mississauga First Nation
- Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation
- Alderville First Nation
Sports and Recreation in Mississauga
Sports, particularly hockey, are a crucial part of today’s Mississauga makeup, and the city is home to a plethora of teams.
Local hockey teams and leagues include:
- The Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League’s Mississauga Chargers
- The Canadian Women’s Hockey League’s Mississauga Chiefs
- The Greater Toronto Hockey League
- Mississauga Girls Hockey League
- Mississauga Hockey League
Hockey teams in the city play at over 13 arenas, with the Paramount Fine Foods Centre primary among them. This arena, formerly known as the Hershey Centre, is the primary venue for junior hockey league teams like the Mississauga Steelheads and the Raptors 905. The original team, the Paramount Centre, was built for the Mississauga IceDogs, has since been renamed the Niagara IceDogs after moving to St. Catharines. Other former home teams of the Paramount Fine Foods Centre include the indoor soccer team Mississauga MetroStars and the National Basketball League of Canada’s Mississauga Power.
Other sports with active Mississauga teams include box lacrosse, roller hockey, Canadian football, and cricket. Sporting clubs in the city accommodate activities like figure skating, synchronized swimming, and soccer. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore almost 500 wooded parks and nature preserves, including over 100 kilometers of hiking trails.
What Tools Does SERVPRO Use for Commercial Water Damage Detection?
When businesses are hit by commercial water damage, Mississauga entrepreneurs can count on SERVPRO to respond within the first 24 hours after the initial contact. Response times are often as short as four to five hours. After consulting with owners and insurance adjusters about damage on the property, technicians must assess the damage with industrial-grade moisture measurement tools calibrated to measure moisture content for various surfaces accurately.
Initial readings are crucial for establishing drying goals and finding water damage hidden behind walls, ceilings, and floors. Tools utilized include:
- Moisture sensors, which are built to detect moisture carpeting and the pad underneath. This process aids technicians in determining whether your business’s subfloors are saturated as well. However, moisture sensors cannot measure the amount of damage present, only whether it is there or not.
- Moisture meters come in penetrating and non-penetrating varieties and are calibrated for such surfaces as wood and drywall. Penetrating meters determine moisture content using insulated conductive probes, while non-penetrating meters can rely on capacitance, radio frequencies, or conductivity for this task.
- Thermo-hygrometers are essential for comparing relative humidity and temperature in affected and unaffected spaces on your commercial property. They are also critical for ensuring that air from dehumidifiers and ventilation reaches appropriate temperatures and moisture content to keep your business dry.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga responds Faster To Any Size Disaster to commercial disasters when business owners call (905) 238-7376.

Enjoy Modern and Historic Delights In The Vibrant City Of Mississauga
SERVPRO of North Mississauga is ready a prepared to assist you with your fired damaged property.
Mississauga Has A Long History and Plenty Of Modern Amenities
Mississauga enjoys a beautiful location close to Toronto and on the shore of magnificent Lake Ontario. Mississauga is a fascinating city with a multicultural popular, and thriving business district. At the last census, it had a population of 721,599.
Being so close to Toronto makes Mississauga popular as a commuter town – and it has a lot to offer residents and visitors in its own right. Mississauga's multicultural vibe makes sense when you consider that, historically, the city was always composed of different communities.
A City Of Many Villages
In 1805, officials from York (that is now called Toronto) purchased 84,000 acres of land from the Mississaugas (the native people of the area.) That parcel of land became Toronto Township, which despite its name, is not part of Toronto.
Mississauga continued to grow throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many villages sprung up in the area, which was mostly agricultural. There were many fruit orchards in the area, plus a handful of brickworks and grist mills. This collection of villages officially became a town in 1968. Prior to becoming a town, there was a public consultation on the new town's name, with officially eventually choosing "Mississauga" over "Sheridan."
Mississauga is unusual in consisting of so many villages joined together under one name. Today, this history can be seen in the number of vibrant and different communities that make up the city. These include:
- Erin Mills, a large, suburban district that was precisely planned out as a new town and incorporates suburban living and a thriving business community.
- Churchill Meadows, a modern and cosmopolitan community with a striking visual character, thanks to the classic touches the architects added to the contemporary homes.
- Port Credit sits on Lake Ontario's shores and includes a heritage district with strong ties to its past. There was a trading post on the site in the late eighteenth century, and the area has been occupied ever since.
- Malton was built on a historic settlement site and is now a modern working-class neighbourhood with strong ties to the aviation industry and a strong sports community.
- Clarkson is a middle and upper-class district with historic buildings and museums that link it to its more industrial past. Clarkson started as a small settlement based around its post office (which was operated by members of the Clarkson family for 45 years) and is now a lively community.
Enjoy Shopping In Mississauga
Historic Mississauga also enjoys many modern amenities. The city is an excellent destination for those who love to shop, thanks to its range of malls, including:
- Square One Shopping Centre, which is the largest mall in Ontario and the second-largest in all of Canada. The centre boasts over 360 units and welcomes 24 million visitors yearly.
- Erin Mills Town Centre is the second largest mall in Mississauga and is conveniently served by several road links and a bus station located behind the centre. It is also famous as a filming location for several movies, including Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and even a game show (Instant Cash.)
- Dixie Outlet Mall is the largest enclosed outlet mall in Canada and contains many brand names such as Guess, Levis, Calvin Klein, and Nike.
A Derailed Train Gives Mississauga An Explosive History
Mississauga has not been without potential disasters. In 1979, a 106-car train derailed while carrying explosives and chemicals such as caustic soda, propane, and chlorine. The tragedy happened because an incorrectly lubricated bearing on one of the wheels heated up. At first, the friction caused sparks and smoke, and then it drove an axle and a pair of wheels to fall off entirely.
The damaged undercarriage derailed the train, and several propane tanks exploded, causing a knock-on effect that ruptured several other tanks filled with dangerous materials. The resulting explosion was so powerful that it could be seen from 60 miles away and sent a fireball 5,000 ft into the air.
Thanks to some quick thinking and a suggestion from his father-in-law (who happened to be the train engineer), the brakeman was able to shut an air brake angle spigot. This let him detach some of the cars and move the front part of the train down the line and away from danger.
Although firefighters were able to cool the tanks, there was a release of chlorine into the air. Concerned for residents' safety, officials ordered 200,000 people to evacuate their homes. The Mississauga evacuation was the largest in peace-time North American until Hurricane Katrina. In the aftermath, officials decreed that any train carrying hazardous chemicals through populated areas in North America must be fitted with a hotbox detector to detect rising heat.
The Mississauga derailment is also known as the Mississauga miracle because, despite the 5000 ft fireball and dangerous chemicals, no lives were lost.
SERVPRO Knows How To Handle Fire and Smoke Cleanup
The people who were evacuated during the Mississauga derailment were most likely worried about their homes catching fire. Thankfully train derailments are rare, but there are still several things that can cause a fire in the house:
- Open flames such as hearth fires, candles, and oil burners.
- Accidents in the kitchen, such as cooking fires or oil spills.
- Incorrect wiring or damaged appliance leads.
- A faulty heater or a heater being covered up.
In the event of a fire, SERVPRO is here to help. We aim to restore your home to its pre-fire condition, leaving it, "Like it never even happened." We train our technicians to handle smoke and soot cleanup.
Because we focus on cleaning rather than replacing items, calling us means giving your belongings the best chance of rescue. We can clean soot from furniture, keepsakes, clothes, linen, drapes, and toys. We know that lingering smoke smells are a problem after a fire, so we also take care of deodorization to leave your home fresh.
Do not despair if a fire strikes your home. SERVPRO of North Mississauga will take care of every aspect of fire and smoke cleanup. Call us at (905) 238-7376.

Are Medications Safe to Use after Flood Extraction?
Flooding in your home can cause large issues, SERVPRO is here and ready to assist you.
Mississauga Residents Concerned about the Safety of Medication after Flood Extraction
Residents of Mississauga are no strangers to the damage a storm can cause. Last year, emergency services had to rescue three people who had become trapped in their cars during street flooding in the North end of the city. In that case, a combination of poor drainage due to road works and some very heavy rain created a drainage problem and a subsequent flood. But even without road works, the area is prone to flooding due to storms and heavy rain.
There are many worrying things to consider after a disaster. One such concern is medication safety - many residents take regular medication prescribed by their doctor. Some medicines are life-preserving, while others control certain conditions or relieve pain. Customers often ask SERVPRO if it is safe to take their medication after flood extraction in their Mississauga homes. The answer depends on whether or not the floodwater contaminated the medicine.
How do you know whether it is safe to take medication after flood extraction?
You must be very careful with medications after a flood:
- If medications in their original packaging (such as screw-top caps or snap lids) come into contact with floodwater, discard them
- If medications are stored in other containers and come into contact with floodwater, discard them
- If life saving medications appear completely dry and undamaged, you may use them if you must until you can procure a replacement
- Drugs that need to be mixed with water before use are safe only if they are uncontaminated, and if you mix them with purified or bottled water
- You must replace temperature-sensitive drugs such as insulin as soon as possible
Is there a way to keep medication safe during a flood?
You can keep medications in water-tight containers to stop them from becoming contaminated in the event of a flood. Store medicines on an upper storey of the house if possible.
You can also take precautions to reduce the risk of missing a dose, and to make it easier to procure replacements:
- Keep a list of who in the house takes regular medication, what they take, and the dose
- Keep an inventory of how much medicine each person has on hand
- If you know a flood is coming, try to obtain early refills
How does SERVPRO extract floodwater?
Thorough and reliable extraction is critical after a flood. If there are wet fabrics and materials present, the risk of fungal growth rises. Damp building materials can become unstable – wood can warp, and drywall can swell.
Our extraction process includes:
- Using free-standing and truck-mounted pumps to vacuum water from inside your home
- Using carpet wands to pull water from the surface of carpets and to get into nooks and crannies
- Disposing of any unsalvageable wet materials to decrease the risk of mold growth
What happens after extraction?
Extraction is just one part of the flood cleanup process.
SERVPRO technicians will set up fans and air movers to evaporate water from the surface of carpets, walls, and furniture. We monitor the moisture and humidity levels at every stage of drying to ensure the levels in your home are acceptable. We also set up dehumidifiers to remove water from the air and create a drier environment.
We know that dealing with your doctors to get new medications is stressful. Although we cannot help you with the medical side of things, we can lighten the load by coordinating with your home insurer and providing information about your claim. We will also coordinate any necessary home repairs, such as laying down new carpet or replacing water-damaged insulation.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga technicians will keep you in the loop at every stage of the cleanup process. You will never have to wonder what will happen next, what it will cost, or how long it will take – our team will keep you abreast of all vital information.
Will my home smell damp after flood extraction?
We understand that damp smells are a concern for our customers. No one wants to be left with a wet-smelling home. After water extraction and drying, we will deodorize your home using air scrubbers, activated carbon filters, and odor-fighting pellets. We can also use fogging or an ozone generator to fill your home with odor-fighting compounds that get into every nook and cranny.
We understand that a flood is stressful, and there are many things to worry about after it. That is why we take care of assessment, extraction, drying, and deodorizing, so you do not have to concern yourself with those. We aim to leave your home “Like it never even happened.”

What to Do When a Storm Causes Lake Ontario to Flood My Home?
From Toronto to Mississauga--Property Owners Rely on SERVPRO for Floodwater Removal and Restoration
SERVPRO Can Use Advanced Technology to Remove the Flood Water From Your Mississauga Home!
Discovering that your home desperately needs local Mississauga flood water removal services is not how most homeowners want to start their day. However, when you live adjacent to Lake Ontario, severe storms can jeopardize your home. For example, imagine a scenario where the road to your home floods in ankle-deep water. That water flows down your driveway and then floods your garage, leaving your possessions and camping gear in danger of water damage.
The best thing you can do for your home is to reach out to local Mississauga water removal services. You may think that the floodwaters are less likely to damage your home because the damage is in your garage. However, this is untrue since the excess moisture can still access the framing of your home. Water damage of any kind is time-sensitive- don't allow it to sit and cause more issues.
What Could Happen to My Outdoor Equipment if I Don't Address the Flood Damage?
Neglecting the flood damage in your garage can cause much damage to your expensive possessions. For example:
- Wet tarps, tents, and camping chairs are a breeding ground for mould and mildew
- Your outdoor equipment could gain a musty and unpleasant odor
- Prolonged exposure to excess moisture could ruin sealant on your camping equipment
Furthermore, flooding could also impact the framing of your home. Drywall can absorb water and expose your electrical and insulation to moisture. For the longevity of your home, keep water out.
What Can SERVPRO Do to Remove the Water Damage?
SERVPRO technicians have access to advanced industry-grade technological devices. To remove the water, we can start by:
- Removing your packed possessions and sending them to our facility for professional treatment and repacking
- Setting up portable pumps, wet/dry vacuums, and flood drying mats to remove the floodwaters
- Arrange drying equipment to ensure mould growth is less likely
Here at SERVPRO, we take flood damage remediation very seriously. Our goal is always to make you feel, "Like it never even happened."
If you need flood damage removal, don't wait. Dial (905) 238-7376 to speak with SERVPRO of North Mississauga. We're waiting to help you!
Which Closet Items Can Be Kept After Fire Damage?
Contact SERVPRO for fire damage restoration services.
Mississauga Residents Are Concerned About Fire Damage To Clothes and Cosmetics.
As anyone living in Mississauga knows, your clothes and cosmetics are a vital part of your day! Whether you are high fashion or comfortable and casual, getting dressed is part of every day. Clothes can be costly, so naturally, you want to take good care of them.
If your Mississauga home suffers fire damage, you might wonder whether to try and salvage your clothes and cosmetics, and linen and accessories. There is quite a lot of conflicting information out there. Let us take a look at the SERVPRO approach.
Is it safe to use cosmetics after a fire?
SERVPRO recommends you toss all exposed or soiled cosmetics after a fire. We understand this is frustrating as cosmetics are not cheap, and you do not want to pay to replace all of your makeup, shampoo, soap, and other personal hygiene items. However, even if cosmetics look undamaged, the fire and heat can affect them:
- Heat can damage plastic cases and break their seals so that microbes and other nasties can get in
- High heat can also change the chemical composition of cosmetics and make them unsafe to use
- Tiny particles of fire-fighting chemicals can penetrate cosmetics packaging – these can irritate your skin and scalp
Whether your cosmetics are lightly smoke-damaged or look as though they have escaped unscathed, it is safer to replace them.
What about my clothes?
Some restoration companies will tell you that you cannot save your clothes after fire damage because of soot particles and fire-fighting chemicals. However, SERVPRO of North Mississauga uses a uniquely powerful washing system called ESPORTA, capable of handling soot damage and lingering chemicals.
The ESPORTA system is suitable for:
- Clothing items of all kinds, from casual jeans to smart business suits
- Textiles such as duvets, blankets, towels, and other linens
- Accessories including coats, hats, scarves, and canvas shoes
- Sports equipment such as jerseys or padded hockey equipment
If your clothes are visibly burned (as opposed to soot damaged), it is usually best to dispose of them. However, for soot damage, ESPORTA can help restore your clothes “Like it never even happened.”
Why does SERVPRO use ESPORTA?
Most traditional washing machines rely on agitation to clean clothes. The engine spins, tumbles, or paddles the clothing items while soaking them in water and detergent. This method has been used since before the second world war and is inefficient.
ESPORTA uses a hydraulic cleaning action, which pushes the detergents into the fabrics and pushes out the contaminants. This is much more effective than other methods – the ESPORTA system cleans up to 90% of items with soot, grime, mould, or odour damage. And it does not merely leave the things clean – it leaves them food-grade clean.
ESPORTA has other advantages, too:
- It uses detergents that are free from dangerous solvents and phosphates, so it is kinder to the environment
- It uses as much as 50% less water than traditional wet-washing methods, so it reduces water waste
- The hydraulic action is much gentler on your clothes than conventional agitation
When will I get my clothes back?
SERVPRO technicians will remove your damaged clothes and textiles from your home as soon as we can, to prevent further soot stains. We take your clothes to our off-site cleaning facility. We aim to return your items within two weeks – we also have an emergency 72-hour service for essential clothing so you can go on with your life.
We take inventory of all textiles and clothes before we pack them out and move them to our cleaning facility. You can rest assured that we will return every item in better condition than it left.
What about drapes and other textiles?
Your clothes and linens are not the only delicate items that can be affected by soot damage. We can also restore larger things like drapes, mattresses, and rugs. We also take care of fire-damaged furniture.
Our policy is to restore and clean wherever possible, and only replace items when there is no other option. This is more cost-effective for you because it is cheaper to clean items than it is to buy new ones. Salvaging everyday objects can also help with the stress of fire damage because the losses do not feel as massive when you still have some well-loved personal belongings and keepsakes around.
We clean drapes and furniture using a range of cleaning methods, such as HEPA vacuuming, hot water extraction, and ultrasonic cleaning. We can also clean and refinish lightly damaged wood surfaces and scrub soot from metal. We dry each item after cleaning and deodorize it to leave it fresh.

How Can I Dry my Mississauga Home Quickly?
If your home requires efficient drying, contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga at (905) 238-7376.
SERVPRO Water Restoration Technicians (WRT) Are Experts at Efficient Drying of Residential Properties in Mississauga.
What factors affect drying time?
The Mississauga property can suffer from seasonal rainfall or internal plumbing issues during your period of ownership. A wet property is tough to dry correctly due to a lack of natural ventilation and colder areas within the property. The longer the property is wet, the more likely it is to suffer adverse damages relating to mold or water stagnation. It is essential to manage temperature, air-flow, and humidity inside the structure to maximize drying efficiency. Our technicians can mobilize special drying equipment like venting box fans and rapid air-movers to create an artificial air-flow within the structure. Using your home's central heating or portable furnaces, we can raise the temperature to an optimum level for fast-drying. As water evaporates, it can increase humidity levels, which reduces the potential for fast evaporation. By deploying dehumidifiers, we can regain control of the indoor environment and ensure it remains efficient for drying.
How long should it take to dry a property?
When we perform water damage restoration for Mississauga residents, one of the most important questions for homeowners is how long it takes. We usually work with a ball-park figure of between two and five days to thoroughly dry a property. These estimates can be affected by the size of the property, the extent of damage, and the difficulty we expect to encounter establishing proper drying protocol. SERVPRO recognizes that water issues can be a significant inconvenience for homeowners. Our crew chiefs can communicate with you every step of ensuring that your restoration timeframe is as accurate as possible, allowing you to plan your everyday life with minimal inconvenience.
What are the stages of drying a property?
- Initial assessment using measuring devices
- Drying protocol using psychrometric controls and equipment
- Re-assessment and possible adjustment of drying strategy
If your home requires efficient drying, contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga at (905) 238-7376.

SERVPRO of North Mississauga Can Assist You With the Water Damage in Your Home!
Picture renovating the old ensuite in your Mississauga home into something sleek and modern, only to have one small mistake cause water damage. Unfortunately, this situation happens quite often. With the rise of Youtube, Instagram, and Pinterest, many people have access to information like never before. Many homeowners decide to save themselves some extra costs by doing the hard work of renovating a section of their home themselves.
There is nothing wrong with a good DIY project, however, if that project caused water damage in your North Mississauga home, you need to know what to do in that situation. Let’s take the example a little further and illustrate it into a more precise focus. Let us say most of the work inside your ensuite was well done, and the entire room was coming together wonderfully. Unfortunately, a small issue with the plumbing connected to your tile shower stopped your work in its tracks. Visualize leaking pipes, trapped between drywall, insulation, and tile. Picture the water running to the floor and then soaking through. This scenario is a breeding ground for not only water damage but mould as well.
What Could Happen if I Left the Leaking Pipes For too Long?
Most average homeowners would not have an accurate idea of how long it takes for water damage in Mississauga to become out of hand. Truth be told, it takes less than seventy-two hours of moisture exposure for microbial growth to form, and that is not the only problem unaddressed water can do. If moisture is left for too long, it can:
- Cause the wooden framing behind your shower to swell and hold moisture
- That swollen framing could cause your brand new tile shower to warp or even crack
- Insulation is an ideal hot spot for microbial growth, giving it plenty of access to the organic material of your framing
It is never wise to leave excess water to its own devices for too long. If your home has a water leak or a humidity issue, don’t leave it unaddressed. What Is One Of The Most Common Home Insurance Claims For Indoor Flooding In Mississauga?
Contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga at (905) 238-7376 for quality water cleanup service that is Faster to Any Size Disaster.
SERVPRO Answers Calls for Faulty Washing Machines in Mississauga on a Regular Basis
One of the top five reasons for home insurance claims involving flooding is a faulty washing machine. Once your washing machine has a water leak, it can release massive amounts of water into your Mississauga home.
What causes washing machine leaks?
Faulty or worn out hoses are the most common reason for washing machine water loss. Flooding can be extensive, considering the water supply line is always on. Water pressure to your washing machine is the same as your kitchen sink, and that is a lot of power if let loose. Rubber hoses deteriorate over time. A home that is over five years old has a significant increase in possible hose failure. Beyond the five years, you have an 80% chance of hose failure before ten years. This means needing professional SERVPRO water cleanup in your Mississauga home. Washing machine flooding can lead to:
• Water damaged floors and carpets
• Hidden damage behind walls
• Furniture and cabinet damage
Maintain Your Washing Machine
There are things you can do to prevent your washing machine hoses from bursting and causing flooding. Some extra time and money can save you extensive water cleanup bills down the road. Take these steps to avoid future problems:
• Inspect your hoses monthly.
• Replace older/worn out hoses immediately. Do NOT wait.
• Install an emergency shut off kit.
• Install stainless steel braid hoses.
Even when you do everything right, your washing machine can break down and leak water into your home. SERVPRO’s Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) trained team provides water damage mitigation to your home if flooding does occur.

What Happens When Water Leaks Out of My Refrigerator? Whom Should I Call?
SERPVRO Has Skilled Technicians to Deploy Advanced Equipment to Dry Your Mississauga Property--We Are Here to Help!
The Water Removal Experts from SERVPRO Can Cleanup and Restore Your Home in Mississauga.
The weekend trip was fun, but you are glad to get back to your home in Mississauga until you walk into your kitchen. Water is all over the floor and appears to be coming from underneath the refrigerator. Whether a cracked drain pan, water line to the ice-maker, or a clogged up defrost drain tube, refrigerators can begin to leak. And residents in Mississauga know to call SERVPRO.
What Can the Water Damage Experts from SERVPRO Do to Help?
Our team of skilled workers is highly trained to deal with unexpected leaks that cause water damage to Mississauga homes. Several steps to dealing with such situations are listed below
Why Inspect the Damaged Area?
Inspection of the area that the water has flooded is necessary to determine how much damage has been done and to determine the type of equipment that would be best to use. There are several pieces of equipment that our company uses to remove water. Some of these are:
- Extraction Units – These can be portable or mounted to one of our trucks.
- Pumps – These range in sizes and which type is used is based on how much water there is and if there is any possibility of solids mixed with the water.
What About Water That Has Soaked into the Walls and Cabinets?
Our technicians will determine what is the best piece of equipment to use to dry the structures in the damaged area. To cover larger spaces that are affected by water, the Axial Air Movers are a good choice. However, there are many pieces of drying equipment that our technicians use. The injecti-dry equipment can force warm air using positive air pressure into the wall cavities to enhance the evaporation rate of wet drywall material and studs.
Cleaning and Restoration, The Final Steps.
Once the water removal and drying process are complete, our lead restoration technician or project manager can walk you through the affected structure to ensure your satisfaction with our efforts.
The water removal and damage experts at SERVPRO of North Mississauga are available 24/7. So, whenever you need an immediate response, dial (905) 238-7376.
Why Is Organisation Important In Water Cleanup?
SERVPRO professionals are trained to handle all types of water damage. Let us help your business bounce back after a water incident.
How Staying Organised Makes Toronto Commercial Water Cleanup Faster.
Toronto business owners see more than their fair share of extreme weather, from hot summers to frigid winters with plenty of snow and ice. Bad weather is just one of many factors that can cause a leak in business premises. Whatever the cause of a leak, business owners want to get back on their feet quickly.
Water cleanup in Toronto needs to be fast, efficient, and reliable. Water damage to business premises is no small matter, and swift remediation is the best way to minimize damage. Business owners are keen to get up and running fast after an appliance leak, burst pipe, or storm. Good organization is key to a swift restoration process.
Why does organization matter in water cleanup?
It’s shocking to see signs of water in your business, whether in a flood or damp patches on the walls or ceiling. Time is of the essence when tackling water cleanup, which is why SERVPRO of North Mississauga recommends that businesses get organized as quickly as possible.
What does water cleanup organization mean
Organization in cases of commercial water cleanup means:
Having an up to date list of contact numbers for all staff members
Having a water cleanup policy that tells the staff what to do in case of water emergencies
Making sure all staff know the chain of command and who to call
Drawing up a list of tasks to be done in the case of water damage
When do I need to get organized?
The best time to sort out your water damage policy is now. Do not wait until there is an incident, and you are already panicking. Draw up a list of useful information right now and distribute it to all staff members as soon as possible.
The sooner you plan for disaster, the better equipped you will be to handle one.
How does SERVPRO software help with organization?
SERVPRO trains our teams to be highly organized and to be responsible when it comes to logging data during a crisis.
One of our key pieces of software is an industry-standard program named DryBook. DryBook is an IOS application that our teams use to log every aspect of your water cleanup job properly.
Using DryBook helps us stay compliant with the IICRC S500 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration. We use the software to log all the vital information, including:
The results of our initial inspection
Photographs from our first assessment of your premises
Description of all the affected rooms and materials
The scope of work we anticipate for your water cleanup project
Which drying equipment we use and how we place it
Any crucial notes about your premises and our plan for water cleanup therein
We use DryBook to make sure all the vital information about your water restoration project is kept in one easily accessible place. Having all the information available makes it easier for us to carry out our job to the high standard we demand of all our teams. It also facilitates conversations with your insurance adjuster if necessary.
When our teams attend a water cleanup situation, we always come prepared with all the tools necessary to do the job. We equip our technicians with a wide range of stationery and moveable water pumps, air movers, dehumidifiers, air scrubbers, and extractor fans to ensure we leave your building "Like it never even happened."
DryBook is a different sort of equipment – one that helps us keep your project timely and tidy.
What about the SERVPRO Ready Plan?
SERVPRO Ready Plan (ERP) is a simple emergency plan that you can draw up in minutes, helping your business recover faster from a disaster.
To get started with ERP, all you need to do is sign up and download the free app. Your ERP begins with a walkthrough of your facility. The app will prompt you to fill out vital information and take photos as necessary.
By the time you finish your ERP, you will have a note of all the vital details your staff needs in the event of a water cleanup situation. Your plan includes full details of your facility, including water shut-off points and emergency assembly points, a note of the chain of command, and a guide to get you back to work as soon as possible.
An ERP establishes us as your local go-to restoration specialist, which means you can get help much more quickly when you need it. Your ERP also condenses all the essential information into an easy-to-access place so that you can respond more rapidly in an emergency.

How Do I Lower My Kitchen Appliance Fire Risk?
Do you know how to clean your fire damaged belongs? SERVPRO does! Call us today!
Take Advantage of SERVPRO's Specialized Production Facility Resources While Keeping Your Belongings Safe and Secure After a Toronto Residential Fire
Your furnishings, household goods, and personal possessions can take a real beating during a Toronto fire and the recovery efforts. Smoke, soot, and firefighting water and chemicals coat and soak deeply into your home's contents, threatening to damage them severely. Not only is the possibility of replacing all these items an expensive proposition, but much of the property also has sentimental value.
Why Are Pack-Outs Considered After Fire Damage?
When fire damages your Toronto home, everything feels very chaotic. We recommend moving items to our production facility for two reasons:
- Specialized resources and skilled interventions are available in a less stressful environment, allowing our contents technicians space and time to assess, plan, and implement restoration efforts.
- Transporting the property out of your home permits the on-site crews to concentrate on mitigation and remediation of the structural components affected by the fire, unencumbered by the need to safeguard and continually shift your belongings during water removal, smoke and soot cleanup, and deodorization.
How Can I Trust That My Fire-Damaged Property Is Safe When Packed Out of My House?
Agreeing to a pack-out of your possessions might increase worry about losing control of your treasures. To answer that concern, SERVPRO uses a unique Contents Claim Inventory Service (CCIS) to track the articles packed and transported out of the fire-damaged spaces in your home. The system uses a combination of documentation strategies to ensure your property is monitored and secure:
- Traditional lists
- Digital photographs
Does a Pack-Out Provide Accurate Evidence for Insurance Claims?
As we process each item, the CCIS permits us to document every article's condition and follow each as we use a range of techniques to return it to preloss function and appearance. If an item is unrestorable, notes from our assessment and efforts to clean, dry, disinfect, and deodorize can convince an adjuster to pay for the loss and replacement.
The team at SERVPRO of North Mississauga is ready to take whatever precautions are reasonable to make it "Like it never even happened," including a pack out of fire-damaged and soiled contents. Call us at (905) 238-7376 to evaluate and recommend the best practices for your circumstances.

How Should I Clean My Smoke Damaged Home?
Fire Damage? Call SERVPRO Today!
SERVPRO Techs Have the Professional Equipment and Specialised Cleaning Agents to Help Toronto Homes After a Fire Loss
Smoke damage can be a very frustrating challenge to clean up on your own. The internet has a large number of DIY methods, but the truth is, if the incorrect cleaning method gets used on smoke residues, it can make the problem worse or cause the item getting cleaned to become unrestorable. This type of cleanup is best to outsource to a professional restoration services company.
Is It True Fire Damage Can Leave Behind Different Types of Smoke Damage?
The ability to successfully clean up fire damage in Toronto homes hinges on the ability also to remove the smoke residues left behind. Some of the vital steps to smoke damage removal include:
- The testing of the residue to determine the type
- Use of specific cleaning methods and tools for dry smoke
- Implementation of cleaning agents with solvents for wet smoke
What to Expect During the Fire Loss Mitigation Process
When the SERVPRO techs arrive on site, they get to work immediately to clean up the property. One of the first actions is containment around the loss area. This is necessary to prevent the spread of soot throughout the home. Then charred items without restoration potential get removed.
As the techs go through the site, they inspect each item, and if it shows promise for restoration, it gets taken to a cleaning station for detailed handling to remove the soot and smoke residues.
Cleaning Techniques for Walls and Ceilings
Smoke residues left on walls and ceilings can get categorised into three groups, and each type has its own unique needs for cleaning.
- Smoke webs appear in the upper corners of a room and look like black cobwebs
- Dry smoke is light and looks like a fine, black powder on surfaces
- Wet smoke is the most difficult to remove and has the appearance of an oily or greasy black substance that smears when wiped
Choosing the correct solution type is crucial. SERVPRO technicians perform testing on the smoke residues as well as the surfaces they are cleaning to ensure the selected cleaning agent does not mar the surface. The removal of smoke damage is often a multi-layered process. For example, dry smoke residues should not come into contact with wet cleaning solutions as they can get driven deeper into surfaces and cause more loss.
The techs primarily use dry cleaning sponges to lift the dry smoke off the surface (usually walls and ceilings) and then follow up with liquid cleaners to wipe up any remaining stains.
Air Quality Measures During Fire Loss Cleanup
Soot particles carry odor wherever they are. SERVPRO techs use air scrubbers throughout the mitigation process to capture any airborne particulate in its HEPA filtration.

What is the Fastest Way to Clear a Home from Kitchen Fire Debris?
We know the steps to get your home back from fire damage.
Residents of Mississauga Trust SERVPRO to Provide Honest, Efficient Fire Debris Removal Services.
Do I need to arrange for transport and disposal of non-salvageable items?
Our service covers both the removal and safe disposal of fire debris at a Mississauga waste facility. Depending on the breadth of damage, SERVPRO can arrange dumpster rental on your behalf to place non-salvageable materials during restoration using trusted suppliers. Our technicians are capable of thoroughly inspecting your property to designate which materials are restorable and which need disposal. We can remove charred cabinet doors, drawers fittings, and electrical outlets from the property as part of the service.
Is fire debris dangerous?
Combusting materials can release monoxides and other harmful gases. However, these usually disperse quickly within the first few hours. There may still be hazards in the property, including sharp edges, loose fittings, malfunctioning appliances, or slip and trip hazards. Inhaling airborne soots or ash can also be an issue when removing fittings or disturbing the affected area. Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiration masks and heavy-duty gloves, can help to protect restorers during the removal of charred items. There are several safety steps essential to limiting potential dangers:
Shutting off power and gas supply to the affected area
High temperatures and pressure can damage wiring, appliances, and supply valves. Employing emergency gas shutoffs and cutting electrical supply to the affected area is an essential step in ensuring the safety of the property.
Awareness of potentially hazardous materials
Buildings pre-1980 can contain dangerous materials in their construction. These materials may include asbestos or lead-based paints, which should not be disturbed without professional abatement services. Our team can procure specialists for the removal of any materials that they suspect contain harmful substances.
Structural weakening or insecurity?
Kitchen fittings can loosen under the intense heat and pressure of a fire. When joints weaken, there is a high chance that fittings can collapse. This weakening may occur when cabinet doors or shelves are taken from their fittings.
Are charred building materials non-salvageable?
In some situations, building materials or cabinet fittings are entirely or partly salvageable. Charring on wooden frames, metal appliances or doors may only have damage on grains close to the surface. Sandblasting equipment sends thousands of tiny grains against a surface to peel away surface damages. On woods, sandblasting works in a similar way to using sandpaper, providing a clean, smooth surface that can be repainted or refinished. Often, cabinet doors can be removed and replaced while restoring the interior of the cabinet using sand or soda blasting to reduce expenses.
What services are available for the replacement of non-salvageable contents and fittings?
- Reinstallation of doors, cabinets, and drawers as well as venting ducts, sockets, and light fittings
- Base-coating of walls and ceiling using an odor sealing paint
- Safe, professional removal of non-salvageable appliances providing a clean space for new appliances to be installed
Can you begin installing replacement items immediately after debris removal?
Before the restoration procedure begins, our technicians need to ensure that the space is clean and free of odors. Once the debris is removed, technicians can set to work on burn-marks, soiling, and sanding of surfaces. Using chemical agents, we can remove wet smoke residues from the affected area and bring in ultra-low-volume fogging equipment to tackle odors. We can only begin the restoration service once space is returned to a sanitary state.
What chemical cleaning agents should I use on smoke and soot residues?
- Clean, warm water can help to remove light to moderate soiling from walls, surfaces, and ceilings
- Water-based solvents are effective at dissolving certain soots that may have bonded to a surface
- Oil-based solvents for soiling that has a greasy texture
How can I prove non-salvageable items to my insurance adjuster?
In some situations, restoration may already be underway before you have a chance to speak with an insurance adjuster. Any items that are removed from the property by SERVPRO technicians are meticulously cataloged and are included in your service paperwork. This inventory can be passed onto an insurer as proof of non-salvageable items, if necessary, at the end of service.
Where can I dispose of fire debris?
Fire debris can be hazardous and can release ash or soots into the environment. For these reasons, it is not appropriate to use regular waste services for the disposal of charred or burnt materials. These materials need disposal at an approved waste facility or landfill in the area. SERVPRO can transport any debris from your property to a facility for safe disposal.
Clearing your property of unwanted debris after a kitchen fire is most efficient when using professional services. Contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga at (905) 238-7376.

SERVPRO's Commercial Disinfection Services for Mississauga Offices
SERVPRO provides cleaning and disinfectant applications to protect homes and businesses in Mississauga.
While adhering to local virus prevention measures for your business you may need a plan for frequent cleaning while your business is open. Businesses in Mississauga that are currently closed should consider having the premises deep-cleaned and ready for reopening. Homeowners need to clean and protect their homes too.
Tips About Cleaning
Whenever possible use hospital-grade cleaning products, or use disinfectants recommended by the CDC. Always read the labels and apply disinfectants according to instructions. If you use bleach, please understand it is toxic and could burn your skin and eyes, and damage textiles, upholstery, and carpeting. The most important surfaces to keep clean are the active touchpoints in your facility. A recently cleaned surface can become contaminated the moment it comes in contact with the virus. Repetitive cleaning is the key.
If you need commercial-quality disinfection services, to be sure the job is done right at your Mississauga office space, business, or home the IICRC-certified restoration professionals at SERVPRO stand ready to assist you. Our pros have extensive experience following the CDC, EPA, and OSHA protocols and requirements about microbial and environmental cleaning at commercial and residential sites.

Disclaimer: Advice from the medical and scientific community regarding how to deal with the coronavirus is based on present knowledge, which is subject to change as the situation continues to develop. There can be no assurance that disinfectants alone will be adequate to fully eliminate the virus. We are not physicians or infectious disease professionals. Flood Damage to Your Toronto Bakery
“Like it never even happened.”
Excessive Snowmelt Can Cause Flood Damage to Your Toronto Bakery
Every Canadian knows that snowmelt has the possibility of causing flood damage. After a particularly heavy winter, it can be unnerving for spring to come. As snow melts, rivers and lakes become filled to the brim and sometimes spillover. However, it is not only homes and businesses adjacent to water that need to worry. Snowmelt can plague anyone.
In the case of your Toronto bakery, flood damage could hit your property because of rapid snowmelt. Due to global warming, temperatures have been all over the place for Ontario springs. One weekend a blizzard can hit, and then the next every bit of snow could melt. Unfortunately, unstable weather can cause some problems for local buildings.
Imagine arriving at your bakery to open the doors and begin prep for the day to find a generous puddle of water on the floor surrounding the front entryway. The sudden snowmelt allowed water to trickle under the door and pool in your establishment, causing flood damage to the tile floors. Not only does the water create an unsafe work environment, but it may have been there since the previous afternoon. Getting professional help to your location is essential, even if it means closing the doors to your shop for the day.
Here at SERVPRO, we understand how essential foot traffic is to your business. We also understand that your establishment cannot remain closed for long, or else customers may begin to look elsewhere for their baked goods. For this reason, we work when you need us. Any time, any day, our services are available for you.
When we arrive at your bakery, our SERVPRO flood damage restoration technicians can get to work immediately. Our priority is to get the water off of your floor, and we can do so with advanced technology. Our technicians can use wet/dry vacuums and extractors to remove the standing water from your property. Furthermore, we can employ the use of dehumidifiers, flood drying mats, and heaters to ensure that excess moisture is removed from the floors.
To help ensure that mold growth cannot occur, SERVPRO can also use antifungal cleaning agents on the floor to eliminate mold spores and other bacteria. Once we're finished, we can return your store to you in its preloss condition.
If you need flood damage remediation services, get help now. Contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga by calling (905) 238-7376. Our doors are always open to you.

Can Properties in Mississauga Experience Mould Damage? SERVPRO Says--Call Us for Remediation
Why Let Mould Rule Your Mississauga Home? SERVPRO Has the Remedies--"Like it never even happened."
Risks of Mould and What SERVPRO Can Do for Mississauga Homes
Moist conditions can feel difficult to avoid in Mississauga homes and businesses, especially with the proximity to larger bodies of water and higher humidity levels throughout the year. Higher moisture content in the air can provide the right conditions for mould growth and development without the appropriate regulation of the humidity. The discovery of mold growth can be alarming, mainly when the problem has spread to multiple surfaces before you notice.
Our SERVPRO professionals have seen the effects of mold damage in Mississauga firsthand and have the appropriate training and equipment to handle these threats as they get found. Remediation practices can help to not only slow the spread and severity of these conditions but remove active colonization and better protect your structure and its occupants. Whether it is your family home or business like an office or restaurant, there are risks associated with direct and prolonged exposure to mold colonies.
Immediate Threats of Mould Development
Knowing what to expect from the development of mold colonies and the spread of the organism throughout your structure is beneficial to appreciate the need for remediation to begin right away. Many homeowners mistakenly believe that living with mold is neither hazardous nor uncommon, and consequently, do little to combat this spreading threat in their house. There are multiple hazards to active mold growth and colonization, all of which can have swift and direct effects on your property and its occupants.
There is no mistaking that direct exposure to mold colonization has gotten linked to detrimental health effects. A higher concentration of mould spores can be hazardous in itself. However, active colonies can also produce volatile organic compounds (VOC) from the organism feeding on organic matter and spreading to new surfaces. VOCs are toxic and vary in degrees of severity based on how concentrated exposure becomes.
Colonies use materials as hosts for the organism and feed on the matter of these organic structural elements and contents of a residence to thrive. With every passing day where mould goes unchallenged in these hosting materials, surfaces like drywall, flooring, ceilings, and contents weaken and decay.
Experienced Technicians to Help
By the time that you realise that the organism has taken root in rooms of your home or office, remediation is a necessary step that must occur to protect what you still can in the structure. Our SERVPRO team can help by providing your Mississauga property qualified and accredited Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) endorsed and trained by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.) These professionals continue to train and grow their knowledge of this industry niche to provide confident and efficient recovery options for customers. Many of these same technicians have base certifications in Water Restoration (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) to provide even more effective long-term solutions for the property moving forward.
Mold Removal Vs. Mold Remediation
You might have noticed that there are plenty of restoration teams out there claiming that they can remove all the mould in your home or office. Removing all mold spores from any environment is impossible and damaging because, in most cases, the presence of spores is a benefit to the environments where they get found. It is when moist conditions exist, and the number of spores amplifies to unmanageable levels that it becomes a threat that can produce mold colonies. Removing all of the spores in a structure is likely impossible, and if it were feasible, it would be an unnecessary and exceptionally high expenditure.
Remediation, on the other hand, is a system that seeks to address the threats of active mould colonization and migration through the house. With varying approaches, we can remove colonies from their hosting materials to eliminate higher concentrations of mold spores and potential VOCs that can lead to health effects for those exposed.
Remediation to Remove Active Colonization
Not every Mississauga home experiences mould damages in the same way. Therefore, the approach for restoring these materials and areas varies as well. Remediation is a process full of countless decisions that can change by the day to ensure that the appropriate drying occurs, the right containment barriers are in place, and that progress is getting made on removing active colonies to get families back into their home as quickly as possible.
Many susceptible surfaces can host mould organisms but do not instantly become too damaged to preserve. In many cases, media blasting can be a suitable solution to remove active colonization without damaging the substrate of the hosting material. Baking soda is a common choice in this approach, as this pressurized cleaning can also help to reduce musty odors that fungal organisms can produce.
Treating surfaces lightly or potentially affected by spreading spores can eliminate developing colonies on the top layer before the organism can seat into the construction material. Antimicrobial products can remove most microorganisms present on the surface of structural faces or contents in the house.
Removing Affected Materials
In some ways, the only suitable solution for removing the present mould colonies penetrating porous materials in your home or business is to rely on our SERVPRO contractors. We have in-house residential and commercial contractors experienced in building trades to complete controlled demolition and discarding damaged materials to remediate colonization on overly compromised structural elements effectively.
Rebuilding After Mould Damage
These same contractors that performed controlled demolition in the mitigation stages of remediation for your Mississauga property can help with full-scale build back where it is necessary. A seamless transition between remediation and cleaning to reconstruction can save you time and money on the work your structure needs.
Mould damage is one of the few disasters that you might not instantly recognize, so when you do, the situation can feel overwhelming. Our experienced SERVPRO of North Mississauga AMRTs can arrive quickly with the tools and products to make a difference quickly. No matter what it takes to make mould damage, “Like it never even happened,” our professionals can help when you call (905) 238-7376.
Mississauga and Toronto Look to SERVPRO for Cleaning and Rebuilding Their Flood and Storm Damaged Properties
Even for Contaminated Storm Damage Sites in Mississauga, SERVPRO Techs Get the Job Done!
Storm Threats and Flooding Year-Round for Mississauga Homes
Weather concerns are nothing new to Toronto and Mississauga residents, as we can often experience some of the worst winter conditions each year along with dominant torrential rainfall during warmer parts of the year. Responding to these emergencies can help to prevent the situations getting out of control, though with conditions like flooding, many homeowners and property management professionals get overwhelmed with the needs of their structure and wait to contact experienced technicians to help.
Our SERVPRO professionals have helped to recover storm damage to Mississauga properties numbering into the hundreds, each of which was different than the last. Readiness for the rough hand of nature can help us to reach structures quickly when every minute counts. We have hundreds of air movers and other evaporative drying tools to get damp conditions post-flooding under control to reduce the development of mould. We stay ready to respond in every season of the year for whatever threats your home or business faces.
Threats of the Winter Months
Here in Mississauga, we can average between 85 and 100 centimeters of snow every year, and in the recent 2019, this number almost doubled to 163 cm. This heavier precipitation during the winter months can strain roofs and structures to withstand the weight of lofty snowfalls. Also, ice jams on the creeks and streams, as well as ice dams on rooftops, can both produce flooding conditions for homes or businesses.
In addition to structural repairs needed to address damages of a collapsed or damaged roof, our SERVPRO team must often overcome widespread flooding in the structure once a substantial structural breach exists to allow direct water penetration and runoff to enter the residence.
Threats of the Spring/Summer Months
Because of its location, Mississauga can often find itself positioned in the path of fierce storm systems during the warmer months of the year. While nothing has been as outwardly deadly and destructive as Hurricane Hazel in the 1950s, which struck here in the greater Toronto area, forceful natural disasters have been a recurring threat to the area, such as Hurricane Sandy in recent years. The common thread with these systems is their destruction, each bringing their own demolishing concoction of hail, wind, and rain.
Large Loss Recovery Team
Storm threats offer a wide range of potential recovery solutions to be necessary for massive commercial properties and the larger homes here in the Mississauga area. As a large loss recovery team, our SERVPRO professionals have an extensive inventory of recovery and restoration tools available whenever they are necessary. We also have a considerable roster of qualified technicians representing nearly every niche of the industry to ensure that no property ever waits for the mitigation and restoration work that it needs. There is no job too big for our team to handle.
There is no convenient time for your home to experience storm or flood damage, so our SERVPRO professionals stay ready to help whenever you need it. We have staffed emergency lines running 24/7 so that you can speak with a real person amid your disaster. We can gather the right information to get our technicians and contractors moving quickly with the appropriate tools, products, and technology. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster, and that means working to reach damaged structures within hours of their initial contact with our emergency response line.
Extraction and Drying
Flooding is often an unfortunate result of storm damage and changing conditions outside amid torrential rainfall or substantial snowmelt. Mitigation is one of the fastest paths to recovering a residence experiencing flooding, and this hinges on our technicians arriving with and deploying the appropriate tools to remove standing water and begin drying procedures. Depending on the presence of solids and debris in the standing water, or even the threats of contamination that could exist with natural flooding, extraction and drying both might vary from one recovery task to the next. We have several extraction tools, including:
- Electric submersible pumps
- Gas-powered trash pumps
- Engine-driven, truck-mount pumps
- Wet vacuums
We also have efficient drying tools to help begin restoring damp surfaces and contents once surface water gets removed, such as:
- Axial and centrifugal air movers
- Desiccant dehumidifiers
- Positive pressure systems
- Negative pressure systems
- Drying mats
Cleaning Up Your Property After Flooding
Contamination and bacterial threats can exist when natural flooding has occurred. Also, mud and debris can be everywhere the water reached, making it as essential to begin muck-out and debris removal as it is to start controlled demolition on directly impacted materials to reduce the spread and severity of contamination in the house getting restored. We have potent antimicrobials, antibacterials, biocides, and sterilizers to use in your Mississauga property as necessary.
Temporary Construction Solutions
Emergency services are a vital element to our fast response and commitment to mitigation practices of reducing property loss for our customers. With a team of in-house contractors, we can offer temporary construction solutions in storm-damaged residences, including:
- Roof tarping
- Board up services
- Tree removal
- Temporary fencing
Full-Scale Build Back Post-Restoration
These same building trade professionals that can oversee the temporary solutions that your home might need amid a storm damage crisis can be the same to reinstall and rebuild discarded materials in your Mississauga home. Our in-house SERVPRO contractors can have a direct hand in material removal during the mitigation and recovery stages of flood restoration to remove any contaminated or overly damaged structural element. With controlled demolition, we only remove the portions of materials that need it, making the reconstruction process more efficient and cost-effective.
You cannot predict when disasters can strike and the damage that they can do to your home or business. No matter how structurally compromised your property becomes, we have a team of contractors that can help with the construction solutions necessary to allow for effective mitigation and restoration of your flooded residence. You can reach our SERVPRO of North Mississauga rapid response team anytime you need us by contacting (905) 238-7376.
Why Our SERVPRO Team is the Choice for Mississauga Water Damage
Snow Melt Damage to Your Mississauga Home? No Worries, the SERVPRO Green Fleet Has Arrived
Mississauga, Water Losses, and Solutions?--Why SERVPRO, of Course!
Water loss incidents can often be one of the most typical service calls that our SERVPRO team receives for Mississauga homes and businesses. Understanding how quickly the situation can get out of control, we always strive to provide a fast and deliberate response no matter what time of the day or night these disasters take place. We have an experienced roster of technicians ready to utilize modern practices and advanced equipment and technologies to dry and restore damaged structures.
Water damage for Mississauga homes can vary considerably from one site to the next, from a pipe bursting after steep temperature drops to a leaking sink fixture that deteriorates kitchen cabinetry, what it takes to restore the disaster depends on the situation at hand. Before we can determine what personnel, equipment, and practices are necessary, the job hinges on the inspection and evaluation of our crew chief and project manager who scope the work to get done. This thorough assessment can help the customer, their home insurance provider, and our responding technicians know what is necessary to make water losses “Like it never even happened.”
Preparedness for Emergencies
Preparing for disasters before they happen is not guesswork, but a calculated response to the likelihood of water emergencies occurring as consistently as they continue to happen. So our SERVPRO professionals keep our inventory of recovery tools and advanced detection devices stocked year-round to address these emergencies as they happen. Having production vehicles ready to mobilize at the first sign of a disaster can shave hours off of response times and help to preserve and protect more of your damaged Mississauga property.
Staying prepared also involves maintaining the equipment that we use every day to restore and recover damaged homes and businesses.
Our SERVPRO team does more than the bare minimum to produce qualified restoration technicians, and that starts with the training and coursework required for our professionals to obtain accreditation in their respective niches. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) sets the industry standard for practices and technician education, which is why they are the chosen educator for our newly acquired talent and provide continued education coursework online and in-house to push our team always to be the best.
Depending on the severity of the situation, any of these extraction tools might get used on a restoration task. For substantial depths or widespread concerns, we also have truck-mounted extraction systems that roll out with our Green Fleet. These engine-driven water removal machines can continually pull water from the flooring of a home at 300 psi, allowing our SERVPRO team to move thousands of gallons from Mississauga properties within hours of arrival.
Removing the most pressing threats like standing water might be an obvious place to begin the mitigation process, but drying is less straightforward and simple. There are numerous tools used in the restoration of construction materials and contents after saturation has started. At the heart of the drying process, you find two main pieces of equipment:
High-velocity air movers are the cornerstone machine of evaporative drying techniques used in water damage restoration. There are two main types of these machines, allowing our technicians to direct heated, dry air at either direct points on a surface or item (centrifugal units) or to impact the totality of a water-damaged room (axial units.)
The use of air movers and other evaporative drying equipment increases the relative humidity and moisture content in the environment. Dehumidifiers like our desiccant and low-grain refrigerant (LGR) models can help to collect this moisture in the air to maximize drying.
While these two types of equipment are at the heart of drying processes in every Mississauga home or business, we also have other moisture removal tools and equipment to help in this process as well. A combination of these pieces of equipment can help to provide efficient and effective recovery of water-damaged properties. Beyond air movers and dehumidifiers, other drying equipment includes:
- Drying mats
- Positive pressure systems
- Negative pressure systems
Many of the water loss incidents that impact area structures can be a destructive force, requiring more than extraction and drying to resolve. As a full-service restoration team, our SERVPRO response includes both mitigation technicians and a capable crew of licensed residential contractors. These building trades professionals can help with both controlled demolition and reinstalling discarded materials once this stage gets reached in the restoration process. By offering reconstruction along with restoration, we can save customers time and money on the recovery that their property needs by streamlining the process.
Water losses can be a debilitating situation for many of the homes and businesses in the area. With the time-sensitive nature of these disasters, it is critical to get help as quickly as possible. You can reach our SERVPRO of North Mississauga rapid response team anytime that you need us by calling (905) 238-7376. We have skilled technicians and an extensive inventory of recovery tools to help.

Most insurance companies want restoration and recovery done professionally; however, unlike small water loss situations where you might otherwise not involve your provider. Because there are multiple layers of effects and damages to overcome after a fire loss situation, reaching your home quickly and confidently is a priority for our responding SERVPRO team.
We can continue to say that We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster for fire damage in Mississauga homes because we keep production vehicles stocked with the equipment and devices necessary to restore your home after these emergencies. From removing and drying surface water after extinguishment efforts to removing odors and contaminants, we have an extensive inventory of products, tools, equipment, and machines to help. Fire & Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT)
We ensure that every member of our responding team helping in the restoration and recovery of your fire-damaged residence gets thoroughly qualified and continues their training in the fire restoration field. Beyond their accreditation as FSRTs through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), our SERVPRO professionals have continued their training and educational opportunities through hands-on experience building exercises, in-house coursework, and online classes to introduce our technicians to the latest trends and equipment in fire restoration.
Experienced technicians are only a fraction of the equation for successful fire restoration and recovery work. How these FSRTs respond in the field when it is your Mississauga home and belongings on the line is where it counts. Here are some of the procedures you can expect to see when our SERVPRO team gets to work on restoring your fire-damaged residence.
Fire Debris Removal
Among the first things that you can expect when our qualified restoration professionals first reach your property to begin emergency services, or mitigation practices is the removal of debris on the floors of the house. Throughout the damaged areas, structural degradation or burned contents heap on the floors and require removal and discarding. Cleaning up these piles and heaps of ash and material remnants can help out the property in multiple ways, even before establishing the full measure of how damaged the house has become.
Shoveling is a typical response to these rubbish piles, though dry and wet vacuuming can also get used depending on where these debris deposits exist. Removing these threats before other mitigation tasks can ultimately save time on restoration by:
• Reducing the severity of harsh odors
• Reducing the concentration of soot
• Limiting the circulation of debris and particulates in the house
Indoor Air Quality Improvement and Odor Control
The environment that our SERVPRO professionals enter for restoration and recovery is one of the first indicators of the severity of the damage that our team must address. A high concentration of soot and smoke particles in the air can make it hazardous to be in the recovery areas without the appropriate personal protective equipment like respirators. Improving indoor air quality (IAQ) and reducing lingering odors involves the use of sophisticated tools and devices.
Reducing airborne debris most often involves HEPA-filtration equipment like air scrubbers. These are the most commonly used environment cleaning tools because they offer a steady capture of soot, microbial threats, and other potential contaminants as small as 0.3 microns.
There are numerous tools for reducing odors in your Mississauga residence after fire extinguishment. Cleaning and other restorative practices can reduce the severity of smoke and burning odors, though neutralization of these scents often involves one or more of our most frequently used deodorizing systems:
• Thermal/ULV foggers
• Hydroxyl generators
• Ozone machines/chambers
Often the emergency services that our SERVPRO team provides Mississauga homes following fire losses involve real-time construction decisions, including the damage to individual structural elements like walls, flooring, and ceilings. With an in-house team of licensed contractors, we can help both residences and commercial properties to remove compromised materials and make full-scale restoration possible. By allowing our contractors to perform controlled demolition, we can only remove areas of the house that need it – saving time and money on reconstruction to come.
Cleaning surfaces and contents is not a straightforward process when following fire losses, as the inappropriate strategies can permanently stain and mar affected materials. Careful consideration must get made on the ideal approaches to remove soot and smoke residues from various surfaces. In some situations, agitative cleaning practices using steel wool or hard-bristled brushes might be best to loosen sediment and damage layers, and other times more intricate cleaning like emulsification through water-based chemical agents must occur to clear installed materials of these superficial damages.
How your belongings get treated during the restoration of fire losses can help to determine the extent of loss that you experience. While walls can get rebuilt and materials replaced, many of the possessions that you have are sentimentally valuable – meaning that no monetary evaluation can get made to replace them at a later time. How responding technicians like our SERVPRO team address these concerns can better protect your property and what matters most.
We have in-house and off-site cleaning practices that can get chosen on an item-by-item basis. Severely damaged contents that can still get restored often become part of the pack-out process and taken to our nearby facility for cleaning and restoration solutions that are more intricate and involved than we can perform in the residence.
Fire losses can be one of the most destructive forces to a healthy life in your home or business, but our SERVPRO of North Mississauga team can help with efficient restoration solutions utilizing our premier training through the IICRC and our extensive inventory of recovery tools and products. No matter how severe a loss incident might initially appear, our professionals can make it “Like it never even happened,” by calling (905) 238-7376.
SERVPRO Rescues Stricken Water and Fired Damaged Homes in Mississauga with Premier Cleanup and Restoration Services
Hey, Keep Your Mississauga Home and Pets Safe after Flooding, Fires, and Other Disasters with SERVPRO's Cleanup and Restoration Help
Restoration Services for the Mississauga Winter and Spring to Combat Water, Mould, Storm or Fire Damage
The long winter months in the Toronto area bring with them high levels of humidity, typically above 60%, as well as rainfall and snow. With extreme weather conditions, there is a higher likelihood of home emergencies occurring. Burst or frozen pipes are a common malady that affects homeowners in this region. Also, high humidity and moisture levels can lead to microbial growth issues. These issues can become a massive problem during winter when your central heating system is likely to provide the ideal temperatures to promote uncontrolled microbial growth. Fortunately, Mississauga is also home to expert restoration services for the repair of mould, storm, water, or fire damage throughout the year.
Throughout the colder months of the year, your home is at high risk of sustaining water damage here in Mississauga. Freezing water in cold temperatures, as well as the thawing during the day, causes water to expand or contract in a constant cycle. In an outdoor environment, this expansion with contraction is barely noticeable. However, in restricted space, this process can cause severe damage to both the infrastructure of your home and its fixtures and contents.
A typical result of extreme temperatures is the failure of pipes or appliances, which leads to a water issue. You may find that water effects different areas of your Mississauga home in different ways, which makes it tough to restore without professional assistance. Understanding the science of building materials is an essential part of the SERVPRO training program. It allows us to tailor a drying strategy for your unique property rather than a blanket restoration service- which could cause further harm to sensitive materials.
When water flows through a structure from an open point, such as a burst pipe, it can spread through the home. This spread can include floors, walls, or ceilings. Understanding the assembly of these areas is essential to active restoration. A floor, for example, is likely to contain porous materials such as drywall, solids like wood as well as metal fittings. Each of these materials responds differently to the presence of heat, moisture, or air movement. At SERVPRO, we perform a careful analysis of building materials to ensure our drying procedure is comprehensive and does not put the home at risk of secondary damage like mould growth.
Mould is a microbe, and like all living organisms, it requires temperature, food supply, and moisture to grow. The ideal conditions for microbial growth are humidity levels above 60%. With a decent food supply and warm temperatures- such as those found in a centrally heated property- microbial fungi can grow to a full-size colony in as little as seventy-two hours. Residents frequently find mould damage in Mississauga because the average humidity levels during the winter months are cohesive with the ideal humidity for mould growth.
Any loose moisture from condensation, thawing snow, or ice, as well as leaking pipes, can quickly dilapidate into a microbial growth issue. Our team here at SERVPRO includes applied microbial remediation technicians (AMRT) who can provide you with a comprehensive gameplan for getting rid of mould and making sure it does not come back. Since mould can only survive where there is a presence of moisture, our first step is to dry the affected area of your Mississauga home thoroughly. We may need to remove sections of drywall or another physical barrier to gain access to the source of moisture and dry it using air-movers or dehumidification equipment.
Once a SERVPRO mould remediation specialist is happy that the source of moisture is dry, we can begin to remove mould colonies using agitative equipment in combination with negative air pressure. Negative air pressure helps to ensure that mould spores do not spread to other parts of your Mississauga home during the removal phase. Our final step is to treat the affected area with disinfectant and biocide to prevent moulds from progressing through growth stages and returning after the restoration service is complete.
A property that has recent experience of a cooking fire or electrical fire can become odourous and unpleasant. Unfortunately, masking the scent using an air freshener is a shortcut that can lead to returning or persistent odour. Our team of fire damage restorers in Mississauga are experts at controlling and deodorising a property that has had a recent fire. Malodour comes from several places, which is why SERVPRO cleaning services incorporate several techniques to combat it.
The guiding principle behind odour removal is to spread deodorant in a similar way to how odour particles are spread. In the instance of a fire, odour causing particles from combusting materials are sent through a home in the form of smoke. These smoke deposits can push odour particles into small crevices, cavities, or soft furnishing, which can make removal through cleaning a challenge. SERVPRO restoration services seek to replicate this means of dispersing odour by using equipment with deodorant solvents.
Misting equipment is a lighter form of fogging equipment that is exceptionally useful to SERVPRO technicians. Misters vapourise solvents and dispense a light mist into an indoor environment. They are hand-held and easy to direct into smaller cavities or crevices in the home. The solvent dispersal includes chemical agents that bond with odour causing particles and therefore neutralize the presence of malodour in your Mississauga home.
Residents of Toronto need to prepare themselves for snowstorms and blizzards during the winter months of each year. These weather events can come on rapidly while causing serious inconvenience for homeowners as well as property damages. Often snowstorms can cause structural harm to a property in the form of sleet or hail, which can, in extreme cases, breakthrough windows and doors. As snow thaws, the likelihood of gutters or drainage systems becoming overworked increases the likelihood of storm damage to your Mississauga home.
When a storm strikes your property, your priority is to find a restoration service that can deal with large loss projects in an efficient and organised manner. SERVPRO emergency services combine hard skills such as the quality and efficiency of restoration with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, who may be under severe stress or facing a temporary relocation from the property. To ensure our services are coordinated, SERVPRO technicians use an iOS dry book to document, assist, and plan the myriad restoration services your Mississauga home needs to get back to a preloss condition.

Benefits for Mississauga Residents of Using an IICRC-Certified Firm
When a Mississauga home disaster happens, such as fire damage, water loss, blizzard, biohazard, or the need for mould remediation occurs, using an IICRC certified firm is crucial for the best outcome.
For property owners needing cleanup and restoration services in Mississauga properties, hiring IICRC certified helps assists in minimizing loss. SERVPRO technicians undergo extensive training using the courses as taught through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). This organization is the gold standard in the restoration industry and continually updates its coursework to incorporate the latest advances in technology, equipment, and methods.
Getting a house back to its preloss condition is the goal of our technicians. They take the time to inspect the structure and contents in the loss area for maximum potential restorability. This attention to detail enables them to save homeowners time and the cost of replacing items. We always strive to restore and not replace structural elements, fixtures, and belongings.
A large part of the IICRC teaching involves keeping the worksite safe for both the SERVPRO techs as well as the property owners. The training consists of teaching the techs in real-life simulations on how to manage extreme situations such as flood damage, biohazard, or smoke residues. They learn the proper handling of equipment and advanced cleaning methods through hands-on education.
As advances happen in the restoration services industry, SERVPRO technicians embrace these updates with additional education for using new equipment or cleaning methods. This recognition of the latest trends keeps them able to continue to reduce the loss for property owners and give them the best outcome possible, particularly in the case of water or mould damage.
SERVPRO ensures each tech has a well-rounded education in the restoration services industry so they can tackle even the most substantial types of loss to both commercial and residential properties with confidence. Some of the frequently used certifications include
? Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT
? Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT)
? Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technician (FSRT)

You Can Trust SERVPRO With Your Homes Flood Damage After an Incident Occurs
Every resident of Ontario understands that snowmelt is a part of the late winter, and they know it could cause flood damage to their Toronto home. For the last couple of years, it has been as if the sky just can’t seem to decide if it wants to snow or rain during February and March. As a consequence, snow melts, rivers rise, and sump pumps fail. Fortunately for you, if this sort of problem occurs in your home, help is nearby.
Imagine a sudden and significant snowmelt causes flood damage to your Toronto home. The sump pump in your unfinished basement fails, and instead of rerouting the water outside of your home, it allows it to pool inside. Imagine waking up to find several centimeters of water at the bottom of your stairs.
If you ever found yourself in this scenario, the best thing you could do is call a cleanup and restoration service, like SERVPRO, for help as quickly as possible. Water damage can cause even more problems inside your home if you allow it to sit. Mold spores only need 72 hours to feed off of excess moisture and turn into a colony. As water sits on concrete, it can cause white spots to form on the surface as it dries. Furthermore, should any water penetrate the wooden framing of your home, it can cause the wood to swell, split, and crack. Getting professional assistance as soon as possible can save your home from further expenses.
Here at SERVPRO, we have built our entire business model around helping you when you need it. Even if you find flood damage in your home at 3 AM or 3 PM, it makes no difference to us. We always have trained technicians ready to service your home. When you make your initial call, SERVPRO can gather a team of talented flood damage restoration technicians and send them to your property immediately, along with advanced equipment designed to help them get the job done as soon as possible.
Let's go back to the basement scenario. Our technicians can use wet/dry vacuums along with flood drying mats to remove the pooled water. Furthermore, dehumidifiers and heaters can help expel any excess moisture from the air. Here at SERVPRO, we’re dedicated to getting the job done right so that you can live, “Like it never even happened.”
If your home needs flood damage remediation services, don’t wait. Call SERVPRO of North Mississauga by dialing the number, (905) 238-7376. We’re always ready to help.

Do not let Commercial Flood Damage Affect your Mississauga Store
"Like it never even happened"
SERVPRO Teams Work to Get You Back to Business as Usual After a Flood Incident Occurs
Commercial Flood Damage Mississauga
In the winter, waterways can become jammed up with ice causing pressure points and, in some cases, flooding. These ice jams can affect your business with cold water intrusion into your local food store. The resulting losses of fresh produce can affect your revenues, but first of all, you need to get the building back into an excellent working condition. Our commercial clients recommend us for our pro-active attitude toward flood situations and our use of knowledgeable, local restoration professionals.
Our services for commercial flood damage in Mississauga differ from residential restoration with larger equipment and communication a crucial requirement. We understand that small businesses depend upon providing reliable service to the community. During an inspection, SERVPRO technicians can give you a clear outline of the timeframe as well as the equipment that we intend to use to perform the restoration keeping you in the loop and allowing you to relay knowledge clearly to your customers.
While no two commercial clients are the same, we develop our strategy by prioritizing emergency tasks. Assessing the condition of water intrusion in your store is essential to knowing which pumping equipment we should use based on lift and volume. If it is solid-waste, we may need to use industrial self-priming pumps that are powered by gas and capable of removing larger bodies of waste. SERVPRO technicians remove standing water quickly and responsibly to ensure that your business makes a full recovery immediately after flooding.
Usually, our technicians conduct a thorough inspection of your business after the removal of standing water. We can sort through stock as well as other items to decide which may be salvageable, which need disposal and which may need specialist repairs such as electric tills or tablets. You can let our technicians know of any special requirements you may have for specific equipment at this point to speed up the evaluation. SERVPRO works closely with many trusted third-parties to take a flooded building from a loss site to a preloss condition.
If your business falls victim to ice jams this winter, contact SERVPRO of North Mississauga at (905) 238-7376.

How Do I Get Rid of Water Damage in my Mississauga Home? Just Call SERVPRO!
Our SERVPRO Equipment in Our Warehouse and Highly Trained Technicians Mitigate Your Water Loss in Mississauga
How We Prepare for Mississauga House Water Losses
Water losses are among the most common call-out that our professionals respond to for Mississauga homes, making it vital that our entire team stays prepared for these scenarios and how best to restore them. Our preparedness for these disasters is trifold, encompassing the extensive training that our technicians receive, the premier equipment used to recover damaged homes, and our availability when the disaster strikes.
With standing water threats in your home, water removal for Mississauga properties is a vital first step towards getting things back to preloss condition. By stocking trailers and service vehicles at our warehouse with hundreds of air movers, dehumidifiers, extractors, and cleaning products, we can stay prepared for nearly all water loss scenarios 24/7.
The first notice of loss (FNOL) is the point where our customers inform our team of an emergency. This initial information gets technicians moving and preparing for a departure. At the same time, our administration responds to this call to collect more vital information about the disaster and what damage already exists. The better prepared our professionals are when we arrive at your address, the quicker we can establish drying zones, and prevent further migration of water damages to unaffected portions of the property.
When our professionals arrive at the house, we can determine what tools are best for the water removal needs based on the extent of present damage.
Water removal is only part of the obstacles that our SERVPRO professionals face when restoring water losses to your home. Saturation and moisture in structural cavities, underneath the surface layers of materials, and in the environment must all get addressed as well. In this sense, water removal is one of the most considerable obstacles, as it means more than extracting standing water from the floors of your home.
There are many different types of tools that can help with facets of water removal, including extraction, evaporative drying, and construction solutions when direct restorative actions might be ineffective.
Choosing the right extraction machine starts with determining the severity of the standing water in your home. The choice for several feet of standing water, like a truck-mount extractor or a gas-powered trash pump, might differ from a wet vacuum or electric submersible pump used with lesser volumes.
Evaporative drying is a stable solution for managing water removal from materials and the environment. Centrifugal air movers are powerful machines that can direct a concentrated blast of heated air at a specific point or portion of a material to expedite surface drying. Axial air movers can also be useful for drying larger rooms and areas without a specific point of focus.
Once air movers have started water removal through evaporation, dehumidifiers play a role in collecting moisture in the environment and exhausting it outside of the structure. Depending on the conditions of the loss incident, including the temperature and location of moisture, water removal with dehumidifiers can either happen with our desiccant or refrigerant models.
Specialty Drying Tools
Weighted extractors can help with water removal from carpeted flooring, while other tools like drying mats can pull excessive moisture from wood planks. While every water loss scenario does not require the use of some of the specialty drying tools that our SERVPRO professionals have, we stay prepared for these water removal scenarios by stocking positive pressure systems, drying mats, weighted extractors, and negative pressure systems.
Cleaning up after water removal is another vital element to making a water loss incident “Like it never even happened.” Our professionals have an extensive assortment of potent cleaning agents and products that can help to remove residues, clear sediment, prevent staining in fabrics and flooring, and even address unsavory odors that might linger behind after a disaster. The application of these products can be instrumental in finalizing the efforts of water removal in your house.
We strive to provide our customers with more than just a fast response when they need it the most. Arriving quickly is not nearly as important as knowing what to do when you get there. Each of our water restoration technicians (WRT) has extensive training and accreditations through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to understand how best to serve a home in need of water removal services.
In addition to the rudimentary information necessary to provide skilled WRTs for water removal and recovery in your house, many of these same technicians have extended their knowledge in this niche of the industry with additional endorsements for Applied Structural Drying (ASD) and Applied Microbial Remediation (AMRT.) These additional certifications can offer practical solutions for water removal in structural elements, cavities, and inaccessible areas to make recovery more efficient. Remediation technicians can reduce the potential spread and development of mold colonies through the application of inhibitors and antimicrobial solutions to exposed framing and construction materials in the drying zones.
Experience also plays a significant role in water removal, cleaning, and even reconstruction that we can offer homeowners. Because substantial loss incidents can deteriorate drywall and other construction materials, water restoration for Mississauga homes often hinges on controlled demolition strategies. These efforts bolster the efficiency of drying and open up inaccessible areas for more focused water removal with light wands and wet vacuums. We have a full division of in-house contractors to oversee this controlled demolition and reconstruction once mitigation and restoration efforts have completed to dry and restore salvageable contents and structural elements.
Water loss incidents offer a finite timeline to protect and restore exposed materials and contents. Often, areas of your home where water removal or drying efforts have not started within 48 hours can experience irreparable damage and losses. Our SERVPRO of North Mississauga team of water restoration professionals can respond quickly to these emergencies with the premier equipment and experience to help. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster, and that begins when you first call our emergency response team at (905) 238-7376.

Help for Mississauga Flood Damage Due to Snow Thaw
If you are new to homeownership in Mississauga, the intensity of flooding during the snow thaw might be surprising. Other areas of the continent are in the news for the water incursions associated with events like tornadoes and hurricanes in the summer and fall, but our more northerly climate requires us to prepare for unwanted water while the snow cover is still significant.
Conditions Conspire to Create a Crisis
The risk of floods in Mississauga from snow thaw is highest during the winter and spring. The ground is coated with snow, but the air temperature can rise above freezing, and rapid melting can become a problem. Spring rains can make this situation worse as the snowmelt and rain run across the frozen ground, dumping into the stormwater drainage system all at once. The overload on the drains can cause sewage to back up. Besides, drains blocked with snow can force water to take another route, perhaps into your basement.
Challenges Transcend Water Damage
When faced with flood damage from both overland drainage and sewage backup, the situation can become dire. Response speed is critical because the water teems with hazardous substances. Snowmelt brings the chemicals from roadways, landscaping, and industrial waste, both suspended in water and as mud and silt, into your home. Sewage threatens health with human blood and fecal-borne pathogens. SERVPRO’s professionally trained, equipped, and experienced workforce is your buffer and solution to these crises.
Hard Work Plus Science
Although SERVPRO employees are highly skilled in innovative techniques, and the use of efficient professional equipment, flood mitigation and remediation jobs often begins with shovels. Before our pumps and extractors can remove the contaminated water, the solid debris must be reduced significantly. Once the process is streamlined, we ensure mud, debris, and Category 3 water are all safely contained for lawful disposal following local rules for hazardous waste.
Detecting, Disinfecting, and Drying
Although speed is essential, SERVPRO knows that we cannot become so focused on “fast” that we forget thoroughness. Any moisture that remains in the affected space continues to destroy porous building materials and expose your home to the probability of mold damage. Using sensitive detection devices, we chase down any lingering moisture, including in recesses and building cavities. We use a range of strategies, including employing portable extractors, drilling holes in mortar joints, and making flood cuts to release water and open areas for drying. Crew members apply effective antimicrobial treatments to cleaned surfaces, and then roll in the air movers and appropriately matched dehumidifiers to dry out the spaces.
SERVPRO of North Mississauga offers a complete menu of flood recovery services when a welcome thaw becomes a contaminated torrent into your home. Call us round the clock every day of the year at (905) 238-7376. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Tips for Protecting Your Brampton Homes from Water Damage
Water Damage Tips For Your Brampton Home
Water damage can be the most devastating type of damage to deal with in your Brampton homes. Not only does it cause initial damage, which can be quite powerful, it can also leave long-lasting damage in the form of rotting and mold. This is why preventing water damage before it happens and protecting homes from water damage is so important. Keep reading on and we’ll give you the top 5 tips to protect your home from different types of water damage.
Tips for Protecting Homes from Water Damage
Water damage is the second most common claim according to the Insurance Information Institute. They studied data from 2013-2017 and found that only wind and hail had more claims than water damage and only by a very thin margin. Therefore, protecting homes from water damage is a top priority. Here are some of the most recommended Brampton water damage tips to keep your home safe and mould-free.
1. Stay Vigilant
It is important to stay vigilant when it comes to water leaks. Keep an eye out around your home for any random water appearing on the floors, water stains on the walls or ceiling, or any musty, earthy odours. This could be the sign of a water leak.
2. Turn Off Appliances When Not Using Them
This may be a hard habit to get used to but it could save you a ton of money and prevent a devastating accident. When you’re not using the washer, for example, it’s a good idea to turn the water off. Also, avoid running things like the dishwasher when you’re not at home and able to catch a leak if it starts.
3. Keep an Eye on Your Water Bill
It’s a good idea to know what your water bill usually runs. If you notice a sudden spike, you likely have a leak. Leaks that you can’t see may be causing devastating damage. It’s important to get a professional out to check your pipes.
4. Clean Gutters and Downspouts
Backed up gutters and downspouts are an accident waiting to happen. Make sure your gutters remain clear of debris and that downspouts are installed far enough away from the home.
5. Test Your Toilet for Leaks
If you’re worried about your toilet leaking, you can test it with a little food colouring! Just add a few drops of food colouring into the tank and then wait. If you see any colour appear in the bowl of the toilet after 25 minutes, you have a leak and need to get it repaired.
Tips for Protecting Children from Burns & Fire Hazards Around the Home
Keeping Your Children Safe From Fire Hazards in Mississauga, ON
Tips for Protecting Children from Burns & Fire
We don't need the Mississauga Fire Department to tell us that burns from a heat or fire injury can be extremely painful. It can also come with devastating and lifelong health consequences. Since children are curious by nature and generally don’t know any better, they unfortunately, become the victim of household-related accidents. Thousands of children end up in the emergency room every year due to burns from the stove, oven, grill, or even a car. The sad part is, many of these accidents could have been prevented. Read on to learn the best tips for protecting children from burns and fire hazards around the home.
Tips for Protecting Children from Burns & Fire Hazards
Unfortunately, there are many fire hazards in and around the home when it comes to children. Their curious minds and inquisitive natures can sometimes lead them into trouble if they are not taught about proper fire safety. For even younger children, like babies and toddlers, child-proofing the home and astute supervision is crucial.
Below you will find some tips for protecting children from burns and fire hazards. Above all it is important to teach them fire safety such as things to avoid, leaving the house in the event of a fire, and what to do if they catch on fire (stop, drop, and roll).
Tips for Outside:
- Keep children a safe distance away from any bonfires or fire pits. They are not always steady on their feet. You want to make sure that if they happen to fall, it is far enough away that they don’t get burned.
- Make sure to stay near outdoor grills when cooking and don’t allow children around them. Teach them to maintain a safe distance or they could get burned.
Tips for Inside:
- When cooking, try to use the back burners of the stove in case little curious hands reach up to see what you’re doing. Also, keep the handles of all pots and pans turned away from the edge so a child can’t reach up and pull it down.
- Never microwave bottles and ensure that microwaved food is not too hot before giving it to a child.
- Keep children away from all potential fire hazardous items. This can include candles, lamps, matches, hot irons, and more.
- Properly childproof the home including covering all sockets. Children like to stick things inside of electrical outlets and can both electrocute and burn themselves if not protected.
- Make sure you have smoke detectors installed near the child’s bedroom and on every level of the home. Check them each month and change the batteries when needed.

Fire Prevention Tips for Smokers in Mississauga Homes
Smoking In Your Mississauga Home Is A Huge Fire Hazard, SERVPRO Wants To Ensure Fire Safety For You And Your Family.
Fire Prevention Tips for Your Mississauga Home if you are a Smoker
While smoking is a bad habit that is terrible for your health, we’re not here to lecture you about that. If you’re going to continue smoking, we’re not going to change your minds. Rather, we’re here to talk to you about fire safety. In all eight countries that report fire statistics, smoking is the leading cause of residential or total fire death in all of them. That’s why practicing proper fire safety as a smoker is critical. Keep reading to find the best fire prevention tip for smokers.
Fire Prevention Tips for Smokers
One of the best fire prevention tips for smokers is to smoke outside. However, that doesn’t work for everyone. If you want to continue to smoke inside, we suggest using the following tips to prevent fire hazards.
- Don’t smoke in bed. Falling asleep with a cigarette in hand is one of the leading causes of residential fires.
- Completely extinguish your cigarette. Small embers from your cigarette could cause a fire. Make sure to put them out well, preferably in sand or water.
- Don’t smoke near oxygen tanks. They are very flammable and can cause more severe fires.
- Try not to smoke when tired. Even if you’re not in bed, it’s possible you could nod off in a chair and drop your cigarette on the floor or furniture.
- Use fire-safe cigarettes. Fire-safe cigarettes will have the letters FSC above the barcode. These cigarettes are made to extinguish more quickly when not being puffed on. Therefore, if you forget about it or fall asleep, they are more likely to go out than catch the house on fire.
If You Cannot Smoke Outside, Smoke Safely Inside
Since many fire deaths are caused by smoking and cigarettes, practicing the above fire prevention tips for smokers can help save your life. It’s most important to properly put out your cigarettes when done with them, never smoke in bed, and avoiding smoking when you are tired.
If you do happen to experience fire damage, SERVPRO of North Mississauga has a fully trained 24 Hour Emergency Response Team to Help.
Is Your Bathroom Causing Mould To Grow?
SERVPRO has the right techniques to get rid of bathroom mould out of your Mississauga home
6 Tips on Effectively Preventing Mould Growth in Your Bathrooms
Mould growth in bathrooms is a common but a pesky problem, irrespective of whether you are a renter or owner. It is a given that bathrooms will be generally humid and accumulate moisture. However, improper ventilation can often lead to mould formation, which further damages the walls and the ceilings. Additionally, mould allergies are a common cause of health issues. Thus, it is essential to tackle and prevent mould growth from happening in your bathrooms.
The good news is that with regular and proper care and maintenance it is possible to handle any mould growth problems that you might face. Here are 6 useful tips on how to prevent mould growth in bathrooms, along with things that you must watch out for.
1. Check the exhaust fan
The most important thing that every bathroom should have is a properly functioning and effective exhaust fan. The fan is instrumental in reducing the moisture content in the bathroom, especially after people shower in them.
Take proper care to position the fan above or near the shower area for maximum results. Care should also be taken to ensure that the fan is cleaned periodically. Make it a habit to switch on the fan whenever showering and leave it on for at least 30 minutes after. Many people opt to hardwire the exhaust with the bathroom lights to ensure that it gets switched on.
Another important aspect of an effective exhaust fan is its capability of performing around 15 air changes per hour. Calculate your bathroom's cubic volume and multiply this number by 15. For example, an exhaust fan with a capability of 480 cubic metres is sufficient for a bathroom sized 4 metres by 4 metres by 2 metres (4 x 4 x 2= 32 cubic metres; 32x15= 480 cubic metres). If in doubt, check with the fan's manufacturers for the exact capacity.
2. Remove additional moisture
It is tempting to ignore this step, especially when in a hurry. However, just leaving the exhaust fan switched on is not sufficient to handle moisture. Use a squeegee to remove all the excess water from the showering area. If you find water has accumulated on the surrounding walls, you can use an absorbent cloth, like microfiber to wipe down the surfaces. This additional step will go a long way in preventing mould from growing.
3. Watch out for any leaks
Keep an eye out for any cracks or leaks in the wall, ceiling or the floors. Leaks are susceptible to mould growth and hence must be repaired as soon as noticed. Do not leave them to be fixed at a later date. If you find that you cannot fix it by yourself, do not hesitate to call a plumber and get the job done.
After all, a stitch in time saves nine.
4. Wash your towels and rugs
As you can well imagine, damp towels, rugs and other linens like the shower curtain in the bathroom are the breeding place for moulds. Hence, make sure to wash your towels and rugs regularly. Opt for bathroom rugs that are machine washable so that cleaning them is easier for you. A good practice is to clean these items once a week.
5. Dry the shower products
Other spots that are vulnerable to mould growth are the shower items like sponges and loofahs. Once you are done using them, make sure to air dry them in a well-ventilated spot. Otherwise, moisture can accumulate in these products and allow mould growth to take place. Drying them properly is essential for hygiene purposes.
6. Open the windows
If your bathroom is equipped with a window, then it is good practice to open it occasionally to let the room air out. There is nothing as effective as natural ventilation if you are lucky to have it.

SERVPRO Odour Removal Techniques
SERVPRO Hydroxyl Generator
SERVPRO of North Mississauga cleaning services: Odour removal
There is not much worse then a lingering terrible smell in your home or business. There are many causes of odours whether tobacco, mould, pet urine, kitchen fire etc… How are you going to get rid of that odour?
SERVPRO can help, our highly trained odour removal specialists have all the knowledge, experience and equipment needed. Besides trauma and crime scene cleanup there are a lot of reasons SERVPRO of North Mississauga may be needed. House fires, floods and other disasters can wreak havoc and cause some serious odour problems for the home or business owner.
Odors do more than cause the stomach to roll. They can carry bacteria, mould spores and chemicals that can cause harms to those who inhale them. They can make a house unliveable and even have it red or yellow tagged.
Some companies use fragrances to cover up bad smells. One of mom’s greatest sayings was that a bad smell can’t be covered up with perfume. Eventually the perfume goes away and the smell is still there. It’s time to invest in the big guns.
Some may ask, why not chlorine? That may also be used, but SERVPRO knows that other tools are needed as well. It’s hard to get chlorine everywhere; some minute corners may be missed. A lot of scent can come from one small, missed place.
One of the tools they use is called an ozone generator. Granting that this isn’t a tool for the casual cleanup, it is essential to get rid of some of the noxious odours that can be left behind after a disaster. The company will be quick to point out that no one can be in the room at that point in time; it is too dangerous.
Hydroxyl generators are another tool that SERVPRO can use to get rid of odours. There is a big benefit to using these generators in that the family and/or business can stay while they are being used. The down side is that it takes three to five days to get rid of the stench.
Insurance companies tend to prefer this method as then they don’t have to pay for hotel bills, restaurants and other amenities that would be needed if the family didn’t get to stay at home. Families tend to like it better because they are more comfortable at home.
One of the best parts of this generator is so effective it can even get rid of the smell of skunks. Anyone who has been around skunk spray or a dead skunk on the roadways knows that this smell is noxious.
The third tool in the SERVPRO odour arsenal is an air filtration device. People with allergies and/or asthma may already be familiar with these devices. They filter out the allergens in the home that affect people. When coping with the aftermath of a fire, these devices help get rid of the particulate matter faster.
Fortunately, at SERVPRO of North Mississauga, we have the right experience to get rid of any bad smell you may be experiencing. if you find need professional odour removal in your home or place of business, call us at 905.238.7376

Tips for Commercial Carpet Cleaning
Commercial Office Carpet Cleaning Equipment
Tips for Commercial Carpet Cleaning
Any commercial area such as an office or retail store will be prone to high amounts of foot traffic. If there is carpet in any of these locations, not only can they become dirty and unsightly, they can also become a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. That is why routine maintenance for your carpet is the key to not only a better appearance but improved longevity. Here we will offer you 5 tips for commercial carpet cleaning that will save you time, money, and resources.
Commercial carpet cleaning and upkeep is the best way to keep your flooring looking great. It can be expensive and time-consuming to replace commercial carpeting. Therefore, we recommend you follow these tips for better health and longevity of your carpeting.
1. Invest In a Good Vacuum
A good, high-quality vacuum can be essential to proper commercial carpet cleaning. It’s not just the quality but also the type of vacuum that is important. Backpack vacuums have shown to be more time and energy-efficient in large commercial areas, especially when there is office furniture or other equipment in the way. Also, make sure the filters are clean and properly dated.
2. Vacuum Daily
Dirt and grit can build up in the carpet and wear down fibers faster than you might think. That’s why daily vacuuming is vital to maintain the longevity and appearance of your carpeting. High traffic areas should be vacuumed every night (or morning). While you can drop it down to 3 times a week for areas that receive less foot traffic, it is not recommended. Daily vacuuming removes traces of dust, pollen, dead skin, hair, dander, dust mites, and more.
3.Tips Place Scraper Mats Near Entry Points
People coming in from outside is the main source of dirt and grime in your carpet. Even worse, when there is water on the bottom of their shoes, it can soak into the carpet and make it even harder to clean. It can also facilitate a breeding ground for bacteria. This is why rubber mats, often called scraper mats, are vital to keeping your carpet clean and long-lasting. When customers or employees enter the building through any entry point, scraper mats can prevent up to 80% of dirt, dust, and moisture from making its way onto your carpet.
4. Spot Treat Immediately
Accidents and spots turn into stains when they are left to sit for too long. Have the proper tools and cleaning materials available to treat spots before they turn into stains. Remember, to blot the spot, never wipe or rub it!
5.Tips Hire a Professional Cleaning Service
Even when following all of the guidelines above, it’s recommended you call in a professional cleaning service from time to time. They can offer deep, carpet cleaning services with professional equipment and cleaners. Along with proper maintenance, deep cleanings will help improve the appearance and longevity of your commercial carpeting. Fortunately, at SERVPRO of North Mississauga, we have the right experience to get your carpets clean the first time. if you find need professional cleaning in your place of business, call us Mississauga at 905.238.7376

Fireplace Safety Tips and How to Avoid Hazards
Mississauga Fireplace Safety
Fireplace Safety Tips and How to Avoid Hazards
Now that the weather is getting colder and Christmas is almost upon us, you are probably thinking of using your fireplace again. Not only does it add ambiance to the room, but it helps keep the heating bills down. Before you light it up (or even if you already have), here are some tips that will help keep you and your family safe.
Use Dry Cured Wood
Make sure your wood is split and has been cured for at least 12 months. It is okay to cover the top of the wood pile, but make sure the sides are left open to help dry the wood. Green wood causes smoke which will cause soot in the chimney
Don’t Burn Anything but Firewood
If you are tempted to burn old lumber, crates, plastic or paper that has been lying around. Don’t! Items that are not meant to be burned contain chemicals that are released when exposed to heat. Stick with your firewood. Fire starter logs are okay if you use only one.
Make Sure the Damper is Open
This sounds like a no brainer, but after not using the fireplace for a while, people sometimes forget to open the damper or the flue. If the damper helps pull the smoke up the chimney, otherwise it will get very smoky inside. You can use a flashlight to check if the damper is open.
Clear the Area Around the Fireplace
Make sure there is nothing flammable near the fireplace. Furniture, dog beds, drapes, newspapers etc. can catch on fire. These items are potentially flammable and if a piece of wood pops and throws a spark, they could catch on fire.
Here are some other tips that will help you have a safer fireplace:
- Clean ashes from previous fires
- Have the chimney checked once a year by a professional
- Install a chimney cap
- If you have a gas fireplace, make sure the switch is child proof
- Use a safety screen
- Keep fireplace tools out of reach of children
- Install a carbon monoxide detector
- Keep a fire extinguisher on hand
- If you have bifold glass doors make sure they are open when the fire is burning
Keep these tips in mind to have a safe and enjoyable winter season with your fireplace.
How to Prevent Basement Flooding
Port Credit Mississauga Basement Flood
How to Prevent Basement Flooding
SERVPRO® of North Mississauga understands how devastating it can be if you’ve ever had to deal with any type of basement flooding, also how upsetting it can be to have your personal property ruined by water damage. Not only is it a major hassle but it can also be very expensive. While there are some things you just can’t predict, there are quite a few ways you can prevent basement flooding before it even starts. The good news is, it only requires you to be conscious and observant. Keep reading on and we’ll tell you exactly how to prevent basement flooding in 5 easy steps.
Basement flooding can happen at any time but tends to occur in the spring. This is due to the influx of water from snow melting (where applicable) and an increase in rainstorms. If you find your basement flooding during the spring every year, you will definitely benefit from the tips below.
1. Check The Foundation
Check the foundation around the outside of your home for any cracks. Also, look inside the basement on the floor and walls. If you find any small cracks, you can use epoxy to fill them. If the cracks are wide or large, it is recommended you call a professional in. Keep an eye on your foundation and basement walls and floors throughout the year. Repair any problems you find.
2. Keep Your Sewer and Septic Maintained
To prevent basement flooding, it is essential to have your sewers checked and your septic tank cleaned; if you live in one of the older neighbourhoods in Mississauga, and are not hooked up to water and sewer. After the snow has melted and heavier rain starts to set it, clogs in the sewers or overly full septic tanks will become apparent as they overflow or back up and flood your yard and basement.
3. Clear Gutters and Downspouts
Our lovely city of Mississauga is filled with beautiful trees. Please make sure you check your gutters at least once a month and clear any leaves or branches. Also check the downspouts to make sure they are clear and pointing away from the foundation by at least three feet. If necessary, get an extension or trough for the downspout to make sure it’s far enough away from your home.
4. Invest in Window Well Covers
If you have windows in your below-grade basement, it is vital that you have window well covers for them. When you purchase clear acrylic window well covers, you won’t be sacrificing any natural light but you’ll be protecting your basement and home from rain and more.
5. Check Your Sump Pump
If you have a sump pump installed in your basement, it is a good idea to check on it from time to time. Make sure it is working properly and plugged in. Also check its well to make sure it is free of any debris. Sump pump failures are reported to be the most common reason for basement flooding in Toronto and Mississauga. Therefore, it is important you keep it properly maintained.
What to Do if Your Basement Has Already Flooded
If your basement has already flooded the first thing you will need to do is get rid of the water as fast as possible. If it is a couple of inches or less of water, you can likely do this on your own with a sump pump. If you don’t have one or your sump pump caused the flooding in the first place, you can usually rent one from most home improvement stores. If it is more water than that or you don’t have any type of pump, you will need to call in the professionals from SERVPRO® of North Mississauga to help.
Once the water is removed, the area needs to be dried as quickly as it can be. Professionals often use large fans to achieve this but if the damage isn’t too extensive, a few box fans might do the trick. If you have carpet installed, it likely will need to be removed. Anything that is porous and saturated will also need to go. This can include drywall as well.
Instead of suffering the expensive headache, follow the 5 tips above on how to prevent basement flooding. If you follow all of the steps and remain observant, the chances of having your basement flood will decrease significantly.

Why Does My House Smell Like Sewage?
Sewage Odour From Toilet In Mississauga
Here at SERVPRO of North Mississauga we understand that the smell of sewage is certainly not a pleasant one for anyone. But if you’re a homeowner, it can smell less like noxious gas and more like money being shelled out for professional repairs. Here are some of the possible reasons your home might be emitting a foul odour and what you can do about it.
The most obvious place to start is the bathroom. But, if you’ve already cleaned and thoroughly examined your toilet and the smell persists, the issue is likely more problematic. You could have a vent pipe that is not working properly, or a broken or loose seal around your toilet. Reseting your toilet with caulk or a new ring would likely fix this problem.
Often odours can come from the shower—either from a build up of biofilm or clogs in a P-trap. Action to take here would include a solid cleaning job of the tub drain and troubleshooting of the P-trap (smells can come from a soggy clog as easily as from a “dry” P-trap). Just like the shower, a bathroom sink can emit a foul smell too. First check the overflow area for the same accumulation of biofilm. P-traps in your sink could have the same problems as the shower, as well as washing machines—another potential source of sewer smells.
Washing machines can also have clogged pipes and vents which can trap sewer air. Sometimes, the water itself can be the culprit—both bacterial buildups in the tank and even an over accumulation of hydrogen sulphide in your water can create hazardous odours.
If you’ve taken a look at these spots in your home, and cannot locate or troubleshoot the smell source, then it’s most likely time to call us at SERVPRO of North Mississauga. You could need sewage cleanup, have a blockage in your sanitary main, tree root problems, collapsed sewer lines or flooding that’s not apparent to a quick sweep of the yard. In these cases, the solutions are best left to the professionals.
What You Should Do if You Find Mould in Your House
White Mould Growth
It can be every homeowner’s worst nightmare… mould. Known as the silent killer, mould can affect your health in negative ways without you even knowing it. While it can be a terrible feeling and experience to find it growing in your home, you should at least be happy that you found it. But what happens next? Here we will tell you what to do if you find it in your house.
How to Tell if it is Mould
The first thing to know is that mould likes dark areas that don’t get a lot of airflow and/or are exposed to any sort of moisture. Mould can also occur where food is prepared like in the kitchen. Bathrooms are a common area for microbial growth due to the moisture present. A leaky roof in the attic can also be causing possible growth you’re not aware of.
Mould is usually fuzzy and black or green in color. It can also appear in small green, black, and white patches. If the area is damp at all, that is also a sure indication.
What to Do if You Find Mould in Your House
If you find any growing in your home, the first thing you should do is be careful not to disturb it. By touching it or trying to wipe it off, for example, you can actually release toxic spores into the air instead. This can, in turn, spread through the air conditioning and infect other places of the home.
While using bleach is a common remedy, it is important to note that it can only work in certain cases. Bleach can only be used to kill mould that is on non-porous surfaces such as tile or glass. If there is growth on any porous surface such as wood or drywall, a professional should be called in.
Some online guides suggest cutting the area out, like with drywall, and just replacing it. However, once you can see microbial growth, it’s possible there is potential contamination in other places and a microscopic leak could even be to blame. Therefore, if you spot anything that looks suspicious anywhere in your home, you should call out professionals who can assess and start the mould remediation process promptly.
SERVPRO® of North Mississauga specializes in mould remediation. We use specialized equipment and techniques to thoroughly clean and resolve your problem quickly and safely. The safety and health of you and your family are our biggest concern. If you have mould in your home or business, give SERVPRO® of North Mississauga a call at 905.238.7376
Preventing Water Damage From Frozen Pipes
Preventing Water Damage From Frozen Pipes
Here at SERVPRO of North Mississauga we understand that the winter months can bring numerous problems to your property. With the temperatures dropping, one of the main things to keep an eye out for are frozen pipes.
Why Are Frozen Pipes A Problem?
Frozen pipes can be a problem in many different ways besides the fact that they can damage your property. Some of the most common problems that are caused by frozen pipes include:
#1: Lack Of Running Water:
As you can easily understand, when your pipes are frozen, you won't have any running water. This can be a big headache since you need water to take a shower, wash the dishes, among so many other daily chores.
#2: Potential To Burst:
One of the things that many homeowners don't know is that frozen pipes can lead to pipes bursting. After all, as the water freezes inside the pipe, the pressure between the blockage and the closed faucet can increase up to a point that makes the pipe likely to explode.
Some Pipes Are More Vulnerable
While not all homeowners in Mississauga will have deal with frozen pipes, the reality is that certain conditions may make your pipes freeze more than others. These include:
#1: Exterior Walls:
When your water pipes are located in the exterior walls of your home, they are more vulnerable to freezing.
#2: Basements And Attics:
If your pipes are located in your basement or attic, they are more prone to freeze. In many cases, they don't get the same amount of heat as the rest of the house. Also most people don't utilize basements or attics as much as the rest of their living space. If you don't spend as much time in attics or basements you won't tend to notice any potential problems.
#3: Furnace Failure:
If your furnace is off for a prolonged period of time due to malfunction or power outage and the weather is below freezing, your pipes can freeze very quickly so make sure to get your furnace serviced regularly.
How To Tell Your Pipes Are Frozen
#1: There Is Frost On The Pipe:
One of the ways to check if you have frozen pipes is to take a look at some of the pipes that you use more frequently. For example, if you take a look at the sink pipes and you see frost accumulating on the outside, this may indicate that the pipe is frozen.
#2: No Water:
If you turn on the faucet and you don't have any water coming out, you may have your frozen pipes.
#3: Burst Pipes:
If you don’t notice the frozen pipes quick enough the pipes could burst, if this happens please call a local plumber immediately to mitigate the water damage to your home or office.
When you notice any of these signs, it is important to act quickly. As you already know, frozen pipes can lead to substantial water damage. So, when the temperatures start to drop, you must keep an eye on your pipes.
